I understand why Danny Garcia avoids Lucas Matthysse.
Garcia is still young. Why feed him to the wolves right away?
Look at what happened to Fernando Vargas when faced Felix Trinidad.
His career was ended early.
Vargas was only 22 years old.
Garcia is also in his early twenties.Posted June 25, 2013 4:57 pm
Danny will duck evey good boxer that gets his way. After that’s lucky shot to amir khan he knows that good luck is hard to come around. If he don’t want the mandatory fight he needs to hand matthysse the belt fast..Posted June 14, 2013 7:29 pm
Boxing fans and writers are so funny sometimes. First they said Khan was too good for him and now (in their opinion) Khan is just average, then Judah was suppose to be the one to finally beat Garcia and now (in their opinion) Judah is way past him prime. I’m not saying Garcia has what it takes to beat Matthysse but at least give the man some damn credit. If Garcia faces Matthysse and beats him then Matthysse (in their opinion) will be downgraded from a hero to a zero overnight…mark my wordsPosted May 31, 2013 10:49 am
Garcia will duck matthyse.

If he beats Matthysse, then for sure he will never get a fight with Mayweather…Posted May 29, 2013 7:50 pm
Danny will not get a Mayweather fight unless he beats Matthysse.Posted May 29, 2013 7:06 pm
“IF Garcia ducks Matthysse it will be to face Mayweather who is ranked HIGHER than Matthysse and I APPLAUD that type of ducking.” You’re an IDIOT.Posted May 29, 2013 5:49 pm
Danny is green and can’t fight southpaws yet… He’s not conversant with the style.. He couldn’t jab Judah at all.. He could barely land a lead left of any kind.. So Judah knew Danny’s right was coming again, and again, and again, and again.. But somehow Danny’s quickness and athleticism allowed him to control the first 9 rounds.. Even though he looked as awkward and lost as Sarah Palin during a Katie Couric interview.Posted May 29, 2013 5:12 pm
Don’t see Garcia ducking this fight. I don’t agree with the author that Garcia looked good in ‘destroying’ Khan. He was being outboxed and landed one sweet punch. I reckon it’ll take more than that to defeat Matthyse.Posted May 29, 2013 11:55 am
i think Garcia will fight him,coz i doubt if he wants it to go on his record that he ducked anyone, it will be down to the people who look after the money,to balls this potential classic up,….Posted May 29, 2013 4:20 am
Garcia has good not great power. Matthysse has a great chin–he took flush shots from Judah, Ajose, Soto, etc and didn’t buckle.
Garcia is a good not great boxer. A great boxer is kryptonite for Matthysse. Alexander, Judah may not have won those fights, but when they were boxing well, Matthysse was kept at bay and losing. Garcia’s looping punches give lots of open space for Matthysse to strike.
Garcia, as far I know, has never been seriously, seriously hurt. Who knows how he’ll deal with getting knocked down. Plus I’m not totally sold on his conditioning.
Matthysse by KO in late middle rounds.Posted May 29, 2013 4:03 am

YES I AM. I like to see guys take on the guys take on the HIGHEST rated opponent available. Floyd is ranked HIGHER than Matthysse. And he pays more TOO. Those are two of the three MAIN objectives in Boxing. The other is WINNING.Posted May 28, 2013 11:04 pm

If Garcia can get a bigger money fight lined up in the near future, he’d be a fool to fight Matthysse in the near future. If not, I’m sure he would face Matthysse.Posted May 28, 2013 10:26 pm

Funny how matthessye is so glorified and garcia continues to be highly underrated. Can’t wait for this fightPosted May 28, 2013 7:36 pm

AGREED 100%…Posted May 28, 2013 5:59 pm
I fully expect Garcia to duck Matthysse. Something will ‘come up’ making the fight not happen. If it does happen Matthysse wins by KTFO.Posted May 28, 2013 5:23 pm
definitely not shook over what he saw,he lives for these moments,he’s a very humble warrior who will fight anybody ,he’s in that long list of young fighters who’s trying to make a name for themselves by trying to beat whos ever in front of him with a name.this writer sounds corny to say Garcia seemed scared ,i know he wants to see this fight but you don’t have to belittle a fighter to try and make it..it’l happen just relax my man…yezzzir!Posted May 28, 2013 3:12 pm
Btw, Garcia always looks a bit awkward and uncomfortable in front of the cameras. it’s the primary reason his father feels compelled to grab the mic whenever Danny’s on stage. “fear”? not likely. he was probably more startled and embarrassed for having picked Peterson rather than afraid of collecting his biggest payday v. Matthysse.Posted May 28, 2013 2:20 pm
Danny wasn’t the only expert picking Peterson.. Hopkins, DLH, and Mayweather had Peterson winning… There’s a tendency for Americans to discount foreign fighters because we dominated the sport for so many decades. The world has become a much more competitive place and the world population is like 3 X what it was in the 1960’s. Business folks all over the world, even in China, are catching on to just how popular and lucrative putting on a world class boxing event can be. Compared to soccer, basketball, and baseball, you only need 2 highly paid athletes to put on a tremendous show.Posted May 28, 2013 1:54 pm
no need to fear the man, respect him yes, but fear should not be a factor, fight your fight , box and move, but be able to adapt if your game plan doesn’t materializePosted May 28, 2013 1:33 pm
Garcia looked shaken up after the fight? That is absurd, he was his usual calm collected self. With that said I cant see this fight going well for young danny, look who he has fought over the last couple of years, an old blown up featherweight who has been shot for years in Eric Morales, a china chinned slapper with no defense in Khan, and a Judah that was starched 12 years ago by Tszyu and has been dominated by every top fighter he has faced since.
Not a very good resume to get you ready for one of the hardest and hungriest punchers in the sport.
I liked how garcia picked Peterson to win before the fight…I dont think he really believed that pick..just wishfull thinking on his part.Posted May 28, 2013 1:05 pm
They both throw massive hooks, Danny s will get their first, Danny stops Lucas.Posted May 28, 2013 12:45 pm

Peej-First of all, you have never proven me wrong that I have seen, since I rarely read your drivel.
Garcia is not a coward like most fighters today —- mayrunner included. Why should he be scared anyway??? Garcia is a lot stronger than matthysse.Posted May 28, 2013 11:10 am
I hear Danny wants to fight so its going to happenPosted May 28, 2013 11:03 am
Holyfield also avoided Lewis for many years—actually for as long as possible. Evander was older than Lewis—while Bowe and Tyson were both younger than Lewis—so you would think Holyfield would have taken the Lewis fight much earlier.
Garcia is much younger than Matthysse. His team probably believes the Matthysse fight will be more optimum for Danny in 2 or 3 years. Boxers themselves have the power to overrule this type of stupidly cautious maneuvering that forever screws the fans out of the best fights. A recent example was Canelo Alvarez demanding an Austin Trout fight when his brain trust tried to push Cotto on him. And Donaire could have avoided Rigondeaux. At 22 Canelo is very far from his peak, but he wants the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter right now. Something tells me Danny Garcia is of the same mind as Canelo. Danny wants the toughest fight out there right now in his division—and that’s Matthysse—unless I’m dead wrong about this kid.Posted May 28, 2013 10:43 am
I see Garcia as the more technical fighter. He has a good chin and underrated stiff power. I would favor him despite Matthysse’s wicked power.Posted May 28, 2013 10:36 am
Oh most definte, I hope the fight does get made. That would be a very good fight.Posted May 28, 2013 10:35 am
I hope they do fight, it will be a great battle. If he doesn’t, he won’t be the first, or last champ to drop a strap to avoid a contender, both Bowe and Tyson did to avoid Lewis.Posted May 28, 2013 10:02 am
Some*Posted May 28, 2013 9:26 am
I know most are still in denial and dont think Matthysse can beat Danny Garcia. Its ok. The same was said when he fought Peterson. Just remember, Lucas has a solid chin and KO power in both hands. Danny is good but I dont think he has ever in the past gotten punched by anyone that can hit as hard as Matthysse.Posted May 28, 2013 9:25 am
The right amount of fear never hurt anyone. Garcia just looked like everyone else after the fight: surprised at how quickly it ended. If he’s wary he will be better prepared and will have a better chance. I think matthysse will win but don’t think he is as indestructable as most others think. Garcia has a big chance to win that fight if he thinks he can, and if he can exploit matthysses shortcomings. Its a fight I’d go along way to see.Posted May 28, 2013 8:56 am

I’m a Maravilla fan, but it does appear he’s been ducking Triple G. Exact same story with Chavez. One of the top dogs has gotta step up soon! I’m hoping it will be Chocolate, as he’s the WBO Champion and is trained by Roach. Some analysts are saying that Quillin vs. Triple G is the biggest, most competitive fight at MW anyway — and I’m starting to see it their way. Big props to Mack the Knife for having the sack to step to GGG when nobody else want to. Remember: Mack dropped Sergio in the 7th and had a slight lead on the cards before it was stopped in the 11th. Mack is a legit top 5 MW, who outboxed Sturm, but will get KOd by Triple G. Real talk.Posted May 28, 2013 2:52 am

I criticize Martinez for not taking ggg, I mean why not? Who is better than triple g? Macklin?
Garcia looked like he saw a ghost after Matthysse beheaded Peterson. Garcia fights Matttysse and Garcia goes down hard !Posted May 28, 2013 1:12 am
It is because Martinez is not that good. Thats why nobody critisizes him. Garcia is gonna take the fight because he is a true champ. Martinez is milking his belt. Should be a fun fight while it last.Posted May 28, 2013 12:36 am
If Garcia takes the fight against Matthysse it would be the worst decision he would ever make ,,look at Peterson he did not have to fight Matthysse but his braveness and not his better judgement took over and look what happen ..Garcia should jump ship and sign up with Top Rank ,,that way he doesn’t have to fight Matthysse ,,Look at Sergio Martinez he is avoiding Golovkin and no one criticize him .Posted May 28, 2013 12:23 am
If this fight happen I think it will all be decided in the late rounds and whoever has better stamina will get the win and I have a feeling mathyse is better prepared but he loads up on his punches right from the start and he could get tired late in the right but then again that what Garcia does also so that’s why I think this is an intriguing fight to watch!Posted May 28, 2013 12:08 am
I would like to see zab vs matthysee 2 if zab didnt pull back he would have not get hit and take the knee i thought matthysee won because zab took the knee. If not garcia fight zab.Posted May 27, 2013 11:33 pm
Garcia doesnt come across as a ducker, make the fight happenPosted May 27, 2013 11:30 pm
That fight will not happen in September. The reason that it will not happen is not because of Danny, it will be because of Angel, the father. He is more interested in the limelight he gets than who his son is fighting. Matthysse is too much for Danny and the father knows it. If Danny loses, Angel will have to get off the stage and that he does not want. The excuse may maybe something like, Matthysse has not earned a shot or give the shot to an American.Posted May 27, 2013 11:27 pm
Mattyhysse is a killer but garcia hits hard enough to humble him that fight is 50/50 once matthysee gets rocked the truth will come out.Posted May 27, 2013 11:20 pm

And although I poke fun at Garcia sometimes, in all seriousness… he will NOT pull a Duckweather and run from Matthyesse. He’s a warrior. This fight will definitely happen and should prove to be a rare and special EPIC treat for all us real fight fans. Should be fireworks, can’t wait!Posted May 27, 2013 11:04 pm
Mattysse is, & should be, the favorite but i can envision more than one outcome for this fight, other than Lucas by KO or TKO; what about Mattysse gets counter by a monster hook right on the button??…Anyway, i think Garcia fancies to be the under-dog & i also think this will be a helluva fight for as long as it lasts. Looking forward to it.Posted May 27, 2013 10:58 pm
Not sure where you got your info from but they are trying to make the fight for Sept 7th. Garcia stated he wanted the winnerPosted May 27, 2013 10:42 pm
. . . and Yes, Garcia takes this matchup. it’s precisely what he’s in this business for and he’s in his prime and at his peak. the timing couldn’t be better for Garcia but it actually is even better for Matthysse. he’s also in his prime and peaking and Garcia is virtually the only thing between him and Mayweather or Rios after he KO’s Pacquiao*. plenty of incentive for both these to agree to a matchup that Matthysse will certainly win by KO or TKO. can’t see it ending in any other way.Posted May 27, 2013 10:41 pm
the downside to this matchup is that Garcia risks greatness and marquee prominence among the PPV roster of fighters. he would end up at Floyd’s doorstep, At-Least, IF he defeats Matthysse. not likely. in fact, i think Matthysse can take Danny’s best punch, which is Danny’s best and only shot. otherwise, he doesn’t fare too well after absorbing a full-dose of Lucas’ offensive power. Matthysse by TKO. i just don’t see how this matchup could end any other way?Posted May 27, 2013 10:37 pm
A bomber who comes in swinging is a perfect style for his laser like countering left hooks and right hands.. I make Matthysse a 9:5 favorite, but Danny is getting better with every fight. Garcia just beat a 5-time World Champion who ownes a victory (robbery) over Matthysse. I see Matthysse as a better and more dangerous fighter today than the one who fought Judah, but Danny will be better too. In fact, Garcia will be at his all time best … and he’s been an underdog before.
Danny will fight Matthysse…Posted May 27, 2013 10:34 pm

lots of speculations by this writer…i think Garcia welcomes the challenge.Posted May 27, 2013 9:49 pm
I dont see how Garica doesnt have a chance. I think his defense is better, better footwork, better jab, better body punching. Garcia can get KO but I also think he can KO Lucas. people well say Lucas has never been down, but neither has Garcia. so uf Lucas can KO Garcia i think it can go the other way. Even if he loses hes still a superstar and gets made props. if he wins then he can fight Mayweather next year, so he”ll take the fightPosted May 27, 2013 9:46 pm
To Sin City ,,like i said ,its not smart on Garcia side to fight Matthysse ,Garcia would not win that fight ,,Garcia can be hit ,,Garcia should push for a Mayweather fight or rematch against khan ,,other fighter have gotten away with it ,by avoiding certain fighters ,,trust me Garcia would be stop if he decides to fight Matthysse .Posted May 27, 2013 9:11 pm
I dont know if Garcias right hand is so powerless as the author put it, he dropped Judah with a right that he seemed to just arm out there without full force of his legs behind it. I dont think Lucas has the ability to take the hook away either. Both men can hit the problem i foresee for Garcia is the late round fading he showed vs Judah. Now he came of age by winning the last 2 rounds when he needed vs Morales bu he cant fade vs Lucas or he will be on his backPosted May 27, 2013 8:54 pm
what are u talking about Jack?? Why should he avoid Matthysse?? Its the biggest money fight. its his mandatory. and if he wins then his stardom skyu rockets and then he gets a chance to make mutli millons fighting Mayweather sometime next year. Lucas is good but people thinking Garcia cant KO Lucas surprise me alot.Posted May 27, 2013 8:53 pm
If Floyd even says Garcia’s name you can forget a fight with Lucas, no way will he take a chance at losing a huge pay day , I would take Lucas over Danny in a brutal fast KO, I think most fight fans will agree with that, If Floyd calls forget Lucas-PEACEPosted May 27, 2013 8:52 pm
If Garcia is smart ,he won’t fight Matthysse ,,if he is brave he would fight Matthysse ,,,But being brave gets you no where ,,Garcia should avoid Matthysse at all cost .Other fighters have had a lot of success avoiding certain fighters ,,Even the great Sugar Ray Robinson avoided some fighters ..the great Roberto Duran avoided Kid Pambele to fight Sugar Ray Leonard ,,Ray Leonard himself avoided The great Aaron Pryor ,,, and lets not mention Floyd Mayweather who has avoided almost any one who seems a threat ..Posted May 27, 2013 8:51 pm

I think he will fight Matthysse. He has never turned a fight down before and he seemed to want the fight when they showed him at the Peterson fight. But my message to Garcia is dump the WBC belt. That belt means nothing now. You will earn more money without the belt because of there ridiculous sanctioning fees. You are the Ring Champion and that is the only belt that matters once you’ve earned it.Posted May 27, 2013 7:06 pm
