Jr looks massive. hope to see martinez chop that tree down like Floyd jr. vs chico style.

Posted September 7, 2012 2:03 pm

I hope chavez jr gets a boxing lesson and gets embarrassed in the ring. Didn’t want his gloves weighed, will come in 20+ pounds over, wants a small ring, claims his chin is great yet he only faces small fighters while he rehydrates to 20+ pounds on every fight, doesn’t want olympic style testing, and has the judges in his pocket. Mexico needs real champs that don’t cheat.

Posted September 7, 2012 5:38 am

Making weight is not going to be the big deal… The Chavez camp has making weight and rehydrating down to a science.. The size gap is huge but not the key determinant. The age gap is huge but can be bridged by conditioning and preparaton. The skill gap is huge and it will be the decisive factor.

Is that you Public Enemy? Still hatin on Mexicans because Puerto Rican’ts?

Posted September 6, 2012 4:03 pm

Years of steriods abuse are starting to take a toll on Chicken Jr’s system.. he’s balloooning up like a whale pre-fights and can’t always count on his Dieuretic Shakes to lose the weight thanks to more stringent testing… Soon he’ll be as Fat as ManBoobs Arreola.. After Martinez beats him to a pulp he may have no option but to quit because there’s no way on Earth Chicken Jr. can hang with Light Heavyweights or Cruiserweights like Puerto Rican Palacios…

i like Jr’s. chances because of what Cintron and Williams were able to do v. Martinez. i favor Chavez Jr. over both of those opponents and he’s bigger, stronger, and younger. IMO, the only real concern is whether Jr. can once agaiin boil down to 160lbs without compromising himself too severely. those things can only be judged on a fight-by-fight basis, e.g., Cotto @ 140lbs, Morales @ 130lbs. a fighter can only pull that stunt off so many times before it suddenly (and predictably) torpedoes them right in the middle of a big fight. otherwise, Martinez will be dealing wiith a bigger and stronger version of a young Margarito with legacy on his mind and dollar signs in his eyes. a lot more motivation than what the unknown Margarito relied on for his “W” over Martinez.

Just wait until Chicken Jr. starts fighting guys his true size.. It’s going to be a very fun time in Boxing..

Shadow Boxer

I agree with Jake Lead Rights. Not only that, but Maravilla has superior hand speed and Jr. will be the one looking like a clown after the fight. Can’t wait to hear his excuses. Super middleweight is for men only, won’t be a good place for him either!

Zurdo40 – Cotto has gone on to make over $40 Million and continues to be one of the top fighters.. MargaCheato, without his Cement Brick loaded Wraps has gotten the living Guacamole kicked out of his cheating ASS and retired like a coward… a handicapped one eyed loser… thanks to Cotto, Mosley and Paquiao..

Posted September 6, 2012 10:59 am

Zurdo40 – Cotto was tagging plodding Margacheato all night long like he did in the first fight.. but this time MargaCheato did not have his cement loaded wraps.. Cotto was actually backing up a one eye’d swollen faced Margacheato before the fight was stopped to save Margaritos Vision… and what has MaraCheato done since the Beat down he took from Cotto? He retired!!! like the chump that he is…. You can thank Cotto for finally flushing that smelly cheating turd down the toilet so he doesn’t stink up Boxing any more…

Jr .will be outclassed but put up a decient fight. He comes to fight and will work hard. But it will not be enough.

Posted September 6, 2012 10:43 am

Jake Lead Rights

Remember you heard it from me first, Chavez doesn’t make weight and he pays the fines. Why? Because his size is his only advantage it sure as hell isn’t his skill or ring IQ. Andy Lee was tagging him straight on muchless Sergio that can punch from all angles. What’s disappointing about all this is that Jr. is going to forever taint the Chavez name. His diuretic nuances and his flagrant weight dismissal are attributes of a disingenous team.

Posted September 6, 2012 9:54 am

JR knows he’s going to lose. He can’t make weight anymore so he’s cashing out before going up to light-heavy.
The weight is the only thing that gives him even the slightest of hopes of winning.
I see S-Mart toying with his food before devouring him in the late rounds.

Posted September 6, 2012 9:51 am

“Cotto was back peddaling once he felt in points advantage.” You’re full of crap, Zurdo40. Cotto was beating Margarito hands down up to the point the fight was stopped. Too many fans were expecting the same thing to happen in their second fight as happened in the first so they–including you–were “seeing” more than was really happening. Margarito was NOT starting to come on. He was NOT starting to take control. Cotto WAS continuing to pummel Marg’s right eye and if that fight wasn’t stopped when it was, Cotto probably would have taken it out for good. So Margarito tagged Cotto with a few good shots late. So what. Go back and watch the fight again. Cotto’s eye’s never lost the confidence or determination that they showed in the first round. Miguel was on a mission. He battled hard and he won that stoppage fair and clear. And he was pretty impressive doing it too. BTW, before the fight I said Cotto had to take out Margarito’s eye to stop him. That’s what Cotto did. That’s how the fight ended.

Daly jr

Theres photos floating around of both fighters in training. Martinez looks lean, athletic, and ripped. Chaves jr looks fat, dimented, and in stupid. Which one is the clown? Martinez has earnd his position at the top of the middleweight tree by beating the best the UK, USA, and the rest of the world has to offer. Jr’s best win is Andy freakin Lee !!!!!!! In hindsight Martinez only stoppage loss was against another cheating ‘boxer’ with no real boxing skill, just a come forward ware em tare em style, FROM MEXICO !!!! If history repeats itself it will be a massive injustice for boxing

Posted September 6, 2012 9:32 am

@Tark, you need binoculars (or at least see that fight), Did Cotto goes toe to toe with Margarito? hahaha. Cotto did not even goes toe to toe with Mosley. Cotto did not back all he said before the fight. That fight was stopped because Pacquiao Punishment not Cotto. Cotto was back peddaling once he felt in points advantage. Cotto and his followers was praying… oh god oh god stop the fight!!!!! A real upset fighter would smack down Margarito.

Posted September 6, 2012 9:01 am

If he dose not make 160 Martinez should not fight him! Look of bum jr goes up in weight Ward going to kill him

Posted September 6, 2012 8:12 am

maravilla will take this one.. believe me

Posted September 6, 2012 5:34 am

Chavez Jr looks like a freakin cruiserweight on the photograph

Posted September 6, 2012 3:45 am

STFU you idiot! Mosley was scared against canelo and did nothing else but clinching, the question is who needs glasses now? i suggest you either shut your mouth or buy some glasses idiot.

Posted September 6, 2012 3:43 am

@ zurdo40…. Mosley didn’t clinch against Cheato. He was too busy beating the crap out of the creep.. Cotto wasn’t afraid of Cheato in the slightest. He boxed his face off and won every round. They stopped it because Cheato’s eye was slammed shut …. You need glasses.

The Mad Scientist

That post from “Anonymous” to tomato can was actually mine..I forgot to write my screen name when I submitted my post, my bad.

For me, the conversation round this fight is going a little overboard on the size issue, and skirting the skill level difference. Grinding pressure fighters look awesome until they start struggling with weight or meet a slick operator. Cotto was destructive at JWW till the weight issues started, Rios was being hailed as a destroyer of the universe but just got a boxing lesson and is now likely to need to move up, Hatton looked like he could walk through anything, then Mayweather walked him into a ring post. I see Chavez looking good for 4-5 rounds then being over-run late, like Pavlik.

Tomato Can

Chavez Jr. has a big chance to become something most of us figured he’s would never be. And that’s a fighter to be taken seriously, a fighter who is tough to beat. He has flaws, but he also is looking better all the time. This kid also has top of the line boxing DNA. Three months ago I would have said Jr. doesn’t have a shot against Martinez. Now I think he does have a shot. Obviously it’s going to be all about how he handles getting hit with punches he doesn’t see, and how he handles Martinez speed and athleticism. But the fact that Martinez is 37 has to be weighed in as well concerning this fight. Martinez has to be coming onto his last hurrah, anytime now. And this fight just might be it. Personally, I hope Martinez is at his best, cause if he is, I still see him winning…..

Tomato Can

Chavez Jr’ should be caring a “heavyweight or bust” sign. He’s pretty young to be carrying the weight he’s been carrying between fights.

Posted September 5, 2012 11:39 pm

The Mad Scientist

Varnish -Kelly Pavlik is not a real pressure fighter, he’s just basically jabs, jabs and follows with a straight right hand..Pavlik can’t rip short punches on the inside or go consistantly to the body like Chavez Jr can as he presses forward..Kelly needs some distance to punch and that plays right into Martinez style because the Ghost would only smother his offense if he tried to get closer to remains to be see how Maravilla handles Juniors size, youth, strength, style and pressure..Williams and Pavlik are nothing like Chavez Jr so it makes no sense in using those two guys as a measuring stick to size the kid up for Martinez..

Public enemy or wtf whatever u are now lol are u pulling a boxtra move now by changing ur name silly boy  lol u still yanking chains put 1000 on martinez if u really belive thats gonna happen

That is def not the same pressure those guys dont use their size and do not commit to body shots they both just trow alot of punches very diffrent.

Posted September 5, 2012 11:16 pm

God Save The Queen

Why do people continue to Big-up Martinez using Williams ( who beat Martinez once ) and Pavlik ( who was not in the right place at the time and had drink issues ) as examples for how good Martinez is supposed to be?? The guy has fought bums, he is all mouth NO action eg calling out Pac and PBF who were not even close to his weight division.
I say Chavez will make him crumble in the latter rounds from the inside, chavez has proven he can take a punch and he will be heavy for this fight wait and see.

Posted September 5, 2012 10:52 pm

Martineze did wilt in the middle rounds against Pavlik, but Kelly did not throw enough punches because he was tired himself. Chavez is younger and will have more gas in his tank.

Posted September 5, 2012 10:48 pm

If Pavlik’s pressure, size and punching power coudln’t deter Martinez, how will Chavez’s. I can’t see any scenario where Chavez survives this fight. And how is Sergio a “clown?” Maybe he’s uncharacteristaclly talking smack, but he’s not a clown like Miranda or Mayweather

Posted September 5, 2012 9:31 pm

old guy

Chavez is big, tough and strong, will be difficult for Martinez.

Posted September 5, 2012 8:51 pm

Just wait and see

Posted September 5, 2012 8:32 pm

Rubio was tagging Chicken Jr. at will.. there wasn’t a single shot that didn’t land on the slow plodding face first Chicken Jr. who has the Boxing Skills of a Drunken Bar room loud mouth… Martinez will land so many punches to Chicken Jr’s face that his big fat head will swell up like a road side dead chihuahua, the fight will be stopped in the later rounds because Chicken Jr. will not be able to defend himself covered in blood and helpless….

Posted September 5, 2012 8:18 pm

After this Humiliating Beat Down Chicken Jr. will join his Drug Addict Alcoholic Daddy in a Tijuana Back Alley drinking themselves into a coma on cheap tequilla… Sergio Martinez will be hailed as a Hero in ARgentina, Spain and the US…

Posted September 5, 2012 8:14 pm

This will be a total destruction of a very limited wannabee fighter who has resorted to cheating and connections to get to where he is at. It will be a similar ASSWHOOPIN as the one Mosley gave the Master of Plaster MargaCheato in front of the entire world.. As Mosely showed, these cheaters are nobody without their dirty tactics… Martinez will expose the light Heavyweight Chicken Jr. as just nothing more then another cheat like MargaCheato…. and like MargaCheato, Chicken Jr’s bogus career will come to an ugly end…..

@PUGIList…. The author says Cheato put pressure on Martinez in 2000… Any fight that Cheato Rito ever had is suspect.. If the opponent wasn’t wary and vigilant about watching the hand wrapping or on the glove inspection they took advantage of it.. The impact of Cheato’s blows in the Martinez fight is certainly suspect.. I’m sure Cheato’s people didn’t start plasterizing his wraps in 2008. They’ve been doing it with every opportunity for a long time.

Posted September 5, 2012 7:58 pm

The author writes…. “Chavez Jr. has the height at 6’0″ to box from the outside, but he doesn’t like to stay at a distance for some reason. Chavez Jr’s has a nice jab, but he doesn’t use that.” … That’s because he doesn’t have a nice jab — it’s mediocre. His footwork, jab, and outside game are mediocre and that’s why he has to bull his way inside, absorb punishment, and use his size, strength, and physical toughness to wear his opponents down. He’s a freakin’ cruiserweight …. He’s never been tested in a real fight. This is his first real test.

Posted September 5, 2012 7:47 pm

I think Chavez should watch the Roy Jones Jr vs Ruiz fight for the heavy weight title so he can understand what it means to be an elite fighter. It’s not going to matter how heavy Jr goes in that ring because his boxing iq is S good as the opponents he beat. On September 15th he will be fighting a real elite fighter. Not someone that was knocked out by Brian Vera.

pity that is all one can feel for “maravilla” pity

Posted September 5, 2012 7:38 pm

Well, Martinez may be clown, but one thing for sure, that clown can hit hard.

Posted September 5, 2012 7:37 pm

I differ with the writer on this point: “Sergio hasn’t faced anyone who can apply the sort of pressure Jr can.” Paul Williams – Kelly Pavlik. ‘Nuff said.

Posted September 5, 2012 7:33 pm

ETheir is a big difference between a 2000 Sergio Martinez with only a few years of boxing experience and the sergio Martinez of today. Who ever makes that comparison is some one that doesnt know the difference between a pre Madonna and experience.

Posted September 5, 2012 7:29 pm

Martinez has to make sure he has a very experienced trainer in Chavez’s dressing room to carefully watch and inspect Chavez’s hand wraps and handwrapping .. And when carefully inspecting his gloves make sure you put your hand INSIDE of both gloves to inspect their interiors.. Keep watching every second to make sure Chavez put THOSE gloves ON.. You have to watch these people every damned second all the way to the ring. Be extremely rude and obnoxious if you have to be, but make sure you’re allowed to watch and inspect everything—or don’t fight …. Make no mistake about it. The Chavez people will do anything to win, because winning this fight means millions and millions of $$$$$. You better be on your P’s and Q’s.

But whats a little weight to Chicken Jr? nothing a few Dieuretic Ariza Shakes can’t handle…

Posted September 5, 2012 7:02 pm

Posted September 5, 2012 6:11 pm

sloppy joe

I’m going to vegas to watch this one live.

I had to pick between this card or the Canelo vs. Lopez Card.

JCC vs. Martinez has a weaker undercard (especially now that Rigoneaux appears to be out), but I just couldn’t pass up the emain event.

JCC Jr. has definitely improved and he deserves more credit than he got in the past. However, I think the hype machine is giving him a little too much credit right now. Martinez is a VERY big step up from the likes of Andy Lee.

I’m picking Martinez by decision or late TKO in a one-sided but competitive fight.
