I don’t think so. Golovkin is a good fighter, but he’s not that good. I’m sure there are lot’s of tough fighters who would like to challenge him.

This is the same Proksa who is ranked 3rd by the WBA, and 10th by RING. He was ranked 9th by RING untill Golovkin smashed him

That’s because Mayweaather isn’t dumb! May is too small for 154 and to try and fight a strong middle weight would be stupid. Nobody in their right mind would knock Mayweather for not fighting a guy 2 divisions higher than the one he fights in. Lets not forget May has already jumped 5 weight divisions in his career, now you try to critisize him for not moving up again or fighting a bigger guy.

Golovkin holds the IBO and WBA world titles. Why is no-one calling him out? Geale vs Golovkin with everything on the line, then the winner fights the winner of Martinez vs Chaves jr with everything on the line. IF only……………….

Reg where are these guys who are licking there chops? Not exactly coming out the woodwork are they?! Sergio Mora is the only one to have shown any interest so far. Geale won on saturday, and already Golovkin, Martin Murray, and others have gone public saying they want to fight him. Why isnt Murray saying he wants Golovkin i wonder?

Posted September 5, 2012 10:45 am

I don’t hear Mayweather calling his name

Posted September 5, 2012 10:28 am

LOl is that the same Proksa who dropped a decision to the great Kerry Hope? He made his career from getting a nasty gash on Sylvesters eye where he retired cause he couldnt see. Proksa has a chump record as good as Golovkins! Why doesnt Golovkin fight the likes of Murray, Macklin, Barker, Mundine, Taylor, Quillin, Odama, N’Jikam, Soliman, Alcine, Lee rather than claiming people wont fight him? He has a title, there is guys lining up to fight him but hell duck against real boxers unless there is a payday.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha   great article once again, write another ha ha ha ha ha ha thanks for the laugh…..

Martinez has fought multiple world champions and contenders and came out on top, Geale has fought multiple world champions and contenders and came out on top, Golovkin hasnt fought anyone in the middleweight top 20 and is hyped because he beat a guy who walks forward into punches without a jab and with non existent defense. Golovkin is a good fighter, no doubt, but he has never fought a genuine boxer and will get exposed when he does. Why doesnt he fight a guy who can actually box before trying to claim people are ducking him, with his hyped profile hell have numerous contenders licking their chops to take his title, but after the Ouma fight, who had lost 5 of his last 7 by the way, i think he is just looking for a payday as he knows he only has a punchers chance against real boxers.

People saying Proksa was cherry picked are crazy. Proksa was massively hyped in the UK because hes been KOing guys for years. Golovkin is the real deal, and the other middleweights know it. He was knocking at Sturms door for a fight but was ignored, and Sturm cherry picked Geale, because Geale was seen to have limited power and nothing special. Which was right as Geale is nothing special, but hes a warrior and doenst do too much wrong in the ring. I wanted Geale to beat Sturm, and i had it a draw or pissibly Geale winning by 1 round. Now Geale has joined the long list of guys avoiding Golovkin like the plague, because he knows he cant go toe-to-toe with him, So hes giving up one of his titles without a fight. Golovkin and his team are doing there best to unify titles but no-one is interested. Which ofcourse fuels the argument of him not fighting any top fighters, but how can he when they wont fight him, and keep using the same excuse. Geale, Martinez, Chavez, Macklin, Pirog, SOMEBODY grow some balls and fight this guy.

Pär Törnell

My thoughts also. He will annihilate all other middleweights, but if he travels down to welter I don’t think he can take Mayweather out, but in catch-weight perhaps. He is to good for Mayweather to make him move out of welter. Proksa was not a joke, he is just as good as the rest of the middleweight elite, Golovkin is just so much better. He will walk straight through both Chavez and Sergio. Its Ward or Mayweather that can put a stop to this enigma, and only Mayweather can do this on an even weight. After what i have seen Golovkin is nr 2 p4p after Mayweather.

Posted September 5, 2012 2:24 am

Golovkin has only done one thing so far in his career, beat up a lot of guys who completely lack fundamental boxing skills. The only time he faced a real boxer was when he fought the way past his prime Ouma, and the much smaller Ouma gave him absolute hell, although he had lost 5 of his last 7 fights. Golovkins one dimensional plodding is nothing against guys who know how to box with good movement, defense, jab and counterpunching, Martinez and Geale will expose the hype.

Posted September 5, 2012 2:08 am

What? Proksa was a joke, he came forward all night with no jab and no defense, he was cherry pick for Golovkin’s style, he is nothing like Martinez. Martinez or Geale would whip Golovkin, all he has done is beat up a kid who needs a real trainer, he has never face a contender or a real boxer like Martinez or Geale in his life . I think Martinez is happy Geale has arrived, and both of them are probably reading Golovkins lackluster record laughing and watching his Ouma fight licking their chops lol.

Posted September 5, 2012 1:51 am

@Space and Time: Everyone is saying that this kid is the best boxer on the planet, I think he needs to prove it first, and amateur fights mean nothing when it comes pro level. With the skill level I saw the other night with Daniel Geale, and with him winning fights in Germany, I think Golovkin will struggle with Geale’s pressure especially in Australia.

Yes he has a great amateur pedigree, no doubt, but what your forgetting here as that amateur boxing is not pro boxing………. almost 2 different sports

Posted September 4, 2012 8:29 pm

you serious? Hes been to Germany twice and won titles mate, and your questioning his courage?? Get a clue

Posted September 4, 2012 8:27 pm

I agree……….. A lot of similiaraties with Tszyu, however, to say hes ten times better is going a bit far!

Posted September 4, 2012 8:24 pm

If Gennady plays his cards right…he could be in the P4P top 5 in the 3 fights. I applaud Martinez and JCC Jr both for fighting each other. This is the best fight of the year. In boxing we are seeing far too few good/exciting matchups. The cherry picking that is going on in this sport is frustrating for the fans. The last really good matchup was Cotto/Mayweather. I’m hoping to see a lot more of Gennady and some high end talent.

Posted September 4, 2012 6:53 pm

You would think Sergio Martinez would be happy another great middleweight has finally arrived in a fairly dull and lackluster division… But he couldn’t have been too happy watching Golovkin fight the other night…and smashing a guy with a very similar style, and physical attributes comparable to Martinez.

Posted September 4, 2012 5:50 pm

@john….. Freddie Roach is not a PED guy.. He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed and would never trust himself to navigate the performance enhancing substances world — anymore than Leon Spinks would want to join the bomb squad and figure out which wire to clip.. If any of Roach’s fighters does PED’s it’s through somebody else, like maybe one of their strength trainers.

As Lole from Yahoo Sports says, promoters will find excuses to avoid getting their fighters to fight Golovkin by stating that “Golovkin hasn’t fought notable fighters and on TV.” They will throw the ball there, over there, and then way over there to duck this dangerous kid.

Posted September 4, 2012 4:25 pm

@pete, Stop being a hater of this kid from Kazahstan, Europe. This kid will knock Floyd Mayweather out within six rounds and I am Martinez, Chavez Jr, Geale, Froch, Andre Ward and others will essentially AVOID to fight this dangerous Golovkin. I bet you know Andy Lee and so called American Direll. Yes, this kid beat Andy Lee in amateur and Direll in the Olympics. Golovkin is an Olympic silver medalist and WBA Middeweight champion.

Too many damn belts!!!! Middleweights with “title belts” – Martinez, Chavez, Golovkin, Geale, Sturm… This is why non-hardcore boxing fans think boxing is a joke and they’re right. The winner of the Martinez vs Chavez bout should be THE Middleweight champ, though I’d love to see Golovkin get a crack at the winner. And how come he hasn’t fought Sturm, they both fight in Germany… Ridiculous.

Since HBO is so impressed with Golovkin’s performance, I think HBO will bring him back and match him against top middleweights, super middleweights (all welterweights including Mayweather, Cotto, Alvarez, etc. will NOT fight this guy for sure) on PPVs and get millions of dollars. HBO has found the hole of gold!!!

Posted September 4, 2012 2:25 pm

Space and Time

Golovkin is very, very IMPRESSIVE! I haven’t seen a boxer, any weight, that’s as good and composed as Golovkin lately. Proksa is a two-time European champion and #3 WBA, and Golovkin made Proksa like he is an amateur. Golovkin has hard punching power with accuracy; he has an iron chin; exceptional balance; and high level of confidence in himself. Wow! this kid, from Parkistan, is amazing. I truly believe that Golovkin will beat Floyd Mayweather by a knock out; beat Martinez, Chavez Jr., Andre Ward, Froch, Geale and any boxers weighing from 154 lbs to 168 lbs. This kid is so good that he spars with light heavyweights because smaller guys cannot take his punching power…and that tells how dangerous this kid is. Also, Golovkin beat Andy Lee in amateur and Dirrell in the Olympics. And he is an Olympic Silver Medalist. He is known as “The Secret Middleweight Champion.” Wow, I guess he is NO secret anymore.

The Kingslayer

He’ll choose Soliman because it will give Geale the opportunity to fight in Australia, and frankly he’s earned one fight at home after going to Germany for Sturm.

Posted September 4, 2012 2:07 pm

160 Super World Champions: Martinez & Golovkin
160 World Champions: Pirog, Geale, Chavez

despite his win over Lee; Chavez is still overated imho, Pirog and Geale are probably better than him

Martinez vs Golovkin at Vegas & Pirog vs Geale at Sydney would be great for 2013

Posted September 4, 2012 1:22 pm

When I fighter says he wants to fit the best, he should mean the present best, Golovkin and Soliman are the two that he has to choose from, the best of the two is Golovkin, the easiest is Soliman, Geale will choose the easiest because he is only brave with his words not his deeds, don’t say you want to fight the best if you don’t mean it.

Posted September 4, 2012 12:58 pm

Agreed, Golovkin is undoubtabely an excellent fighter and has a great amatuer record, but he has a complete lack of experience against guys who box with technical skills in the pros, and to fight with one of the two best technicians in the Middleweight division, his plodding style wont be able to cut it. Watch his fight with the past his prime Ouma, he got hit more in that one fight than his whole pro career combined against a guy who lost 5 of his past 7. Golovkin has trouble with guys who know how to box instead of just fight, and Martinez and Geale are the 2 best boxers in the middleweight division who know how to hit and not get hit. both would defeat Golovkin in his current state, he needs more experience against genuine contenders who are boxers or he will get exposed.

Agreed that Golovkin haven’t good any notables under his belt but he will beat Geale and it would be 50-50 against Martinez. Golovkin got a great amatuer pedigree and he is skilled.

Posted September 4, 2012 11:53 am

So Geale just travelled, twice, to Germany and defeated 2 world champions in their own backyard because hes a ducker? Lol. So Geale, who is now going to fight either number 1 contender Golovkin, or number 1 contender Soliman and have to lose one of his belts either way is ducking? How many champions or Number 1 contenders, or legitimate challengers for a matter of fact has Golovkin beaten? Lol, zero, Martinez or Geale would whip him

Posted September 4, 2012 11:39 am

Golovkin’s got good balance, good legs, good punching power and quickness!! He just hasn’t EARNED the right to fight the BEST yet, let him build himself up to the BIG FIGHT!

Posted September 4, 2012 11:23 am

Neil (pomy)

that would be a brilliant matchup

Posted September 4, 2012 11:22 am

Geale put on a good fight against Sturm, but how many of you want to bet that he avoids Golovkin (ordered by the WBA), he will give up his belt without a fight, like the rest that challenge everyone except for Golovkin, he knows that Golovkin is too much him, he will run away like the rest of the so called Champions.

Posted September 4, 2012 11:15 am

Here are three things that you will never hear Gennaday Golovkin say at a news conference : 1.) I want to fight Carl Froch, 2. ) I want to rumble with Arthur Abraham , 3. ) I`ll give up eating all those breadsticks at the Olive Gardens restaurant that help me to come in extra heavy against midgets like Proska.

Posted September 4, 2012 11:09 am

Having seen Golovkin for the first time, I, for one, was impressed. I don’t know it he is the best in the division, but he gives you an action fight. I hope we see more of him on American television.

Posted September 4, 2012 11:00 am

I’m not knocking him, just how boxing is now.

Posted September 4, 2012 10:52 am

Can’t find other champs willing to fight him? With the wbc, ibo, ibf, wob, nbc, loq, mwp, sob, xyz, fbi, irs, sri, blo, zzz,
cia, iac, aci, zen…et al? That guy must be pretty intimidating.

Posted September 4, 2012 10:43 am

This guy needs to remove his tonge from Golovkin arse and try to be a little more balanced and a little less like a cheer-leading fanboy. Daniel Geale has proved himself more than Golovkin has.

what! he beat a bum from poland and now hes the best?

Posted September 4, 2012 8:27 am

Golovkin is special and looks good against “c” level guys…..Chavez Jr. is great too…..looks great against slow, “in your face” plodders like Lee. Sergio Martinez is going to go down in history as one of the best ever ! He is far from done and neither of these two guys belong in the same ring with him, at least not yet. Anybody remember the Matrinez-Pavlick fight ??? Stay tuned for a worse shellacking of Jr. …..who this time cannot get away with taking PED’s and not getting tested like in the Lee fight. Roach is going to wind up like Paterno……build this iconic image then later down the road one of these PED-FED robots like Kahn, Chavez or Manny will write a book and expose him. So that said, Sergio cleans up the division.

Posted September 4, 2012 8:04 am

LOL, same old line, First off Golovkin is completely untested, hasnt fought anybody and took the bum route to the world title. Yeah, he beat a guy who comes forward without a jab and hangs his defense around his knees, big deal. Martinez and Geale are tried and true champions with skills and resumes to match. I think Golovkin will be ducking Martinez and Geale for a while yet. In his current state Golovkin is a one dimension plodder with a lot of hype. Martinez would run rings around him and he wouldnt be able to keep up with Geale or penetrate his defense. Golovkin is a good fighter, but a little too low down the pecking order to claim champions are ducking him when he is yet to face a skilled boxer. Put him in with a Sturm, Mundine or Odama… sure he can hit, many guys can, but his resume is extremely thin against guys who can actually box, which would suggest Golovkin probably has trouble against technicians like Martinez and Geale…. e.g. Golovkins last 4 fights…. Ouma, lost 5 of his last 7, Simon, lost 3 of his last 5, Fuchigami, never fought outside of Japan, Proksa, no jab , no defense. Why has Golovkin been ducking?

Posted September 4, 2012 6:54 am

The Kingslayer

Exactly with HBO behind Golovkin he’ll get fights.

Posted September 4, 2012 6:26 am

I think Golovkin will get fights. If he stays in the US. HBO sounded very impressed with the guy and his exciting victory obviously helped. I think HBO would love to have him back on tv. But obviously that won’t happen if he goes back to Europe. So I think he should forget Geale. Focus on getting fights here in the US and start building a fanbase. If he does that the top dogs will have to fight him.

Posted September 4, 2012 6:23 am

Stop with all the crap about Geale trying to avoid Golovkin, he’s got two mandatories both WBA and IBF so he’s stuck between a rock and a hard place, he’s not decided anything yet.

Posted September 4, 2012 6:14 am

Personally I don’t think it is a right time to worry about. At this moment, GGG just fought, anyway his team and promoter has time at least 3 month to set up a right event for Gennadiy. I don’t want to see him to disappear for long from HBO as it happen with Pirog once he stop USA prospect Jacobs. I don’t like to think that TOP middleweights will duck him, it isn’t right. GGG has a bright future and we will see Gennadiy amazing skills against TOPs for many times. Consider this, that there might be another super six middleweight tournament or something else. All I know that now Gennadiy belong to World Elite he defend his legacy in front of USA public, so the whole world knew now who is GGG!

Posted September 4, 2012 4:19 am

Daniel geale would give this guy a good fight, publishers stop bagging him out just because hes aboriginal australian hes a 2 time world champion and current unifier of the division. If geale was lined up to fight golovkin i doubt he would of been intimidated at all hes a fighter a warrior and a noogar!!!
