HBO Sports serves up a blockbuster super lightweight title match when WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: AMIR KHAN VS. DANNY GARCIA is presented SATURDAY, JULY 14 (11:00 p.m. live ET/tape-delayed PT) from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, exclusively on HBO. The HBO Sports broadcast team of Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman and Emanuel Steward will be ringside for the event, which will be closed-captioned for the hearing impaired, presented in HDTV and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.

A 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist, London’s Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KOs) is enormously popular in Britain and has displayed a willingness to cross the pond to meet the toughest opponents. Last December he placed his 140-pound belts on the line against Lamont Peterson in Peterson’s hometown of Washington, D.C., losing a controversial split decision. Now the 25-year-old returns to Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, where he scored a thrilling Dec. 2010 victory over Marcos Maidana, which was named the BWAA’s Fight of the Year, and where he blitzed Zab Judah in July 2011.
Khan gets another shot at the title against Philadelphia’s Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KOs) in this 12-round, 140-pound bout. The 24-year-old Garcia made his HBO debut in March, defeating future Hall of Famer Erik Morales by unanimous decision to claim the super lightweight belt.
Immediately preceding the boxing telecast is the live stand-up special George Lopez: “It’s Not Me, It’s You” at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Immediately following the Khan vs. Garcia fight will be the latest installment of the “2 Days” feature segment. The current installment profiles junior lightweight title-holder Adrien Broner of Cincinnati.

AIBA Executive Committee adopts first ever APB Technical & Competition Rules
Bangkok, Thailand, 11 July 2012 – AIBA President, Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu closed on Tuesday 10 July the 2012-2013 AIBA Executive Committee Meeting that was held over three days in Bangkok, Thailand.

The most significant topic on the agenda was the approval of the first ever AIBA Professional Boxing (APB) Technical & Competition Rules. Some amendments were also made to the AIBA and World Series of Boxing (WSB) Technical & Competition Rules.
“This 2012-2013 AIBA Executive Committee meeting was a crucial moment in the history of our sport and our organization. It will remain forever the occasion when the first ever APB Technical & Competition Rules were ratified. All decisions have been approved unanimously which shows the strong unity and the support that our Members are demonstrating for AIBA initiatives.
“Three days of meeting were necessary to cover our packed agenda. All Members were really interested in hearing about the latest development of AIBA including reports on the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games, the Continental Confederations, the AIBA Commissions as well as on the AIBA Boxing Academy that will open in September 2013 near Almaty, in Kazakhstan. We were also delighted to welcome a new member in our Family with the Kosovo Boxing Federation provisional membership being accepted. Now AIBA comprises 195 National Member Federations.
“We are now just over two weeks away from the beginning of the London 2012 Olympic Games, where we will witness the historical debut of women boxing. Then the WSB will enter its third season before APB pre-season kicks off in January 2013. Together we will bring boxing into a complete new era”.

Judah Brothers Boxing Club Fighting to Stay Open
Brooklyn, NY (July 11, 2012) – The Judah Brothers Boxing Club, a safe haven for people of all ages living in New York City’s roughest areas, is desperately trying fighting off a serious economic onslaught.
The Judah Brothers Boxing Club is under the banner of the Thornhill Community Supportive Services Incorporated, a 501 (C) 3 non-profit organization based in Brooklyn. Currently, Judah is in the process of making his gym an independent non-profit so he can continue aiding struggling New Yorkers on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, he is behind on the monthly bills and worries that if the gym is forced to close his members would be in serious trouble. To make matters worse, the landlord is planning to raise rent by $2,000 per month in the near future.
“I want to continue providing a positive place for people in bad situations to go but I need all the help I can get,” said Judah, who regularly bought food and drinks for members who couldn’t afford it. My goal is to run a free summer program for underprivileged kids and they’d spend a whole day at the gym instead of the streets. This is very important because kids are out of school now and can get into all kinds of trouble.”
The gym opened in August 2011 and was fully funded by legendary kickboxer and boxing trainer Yoel Judah. Many of the members laced up a pair of gloves for the first time and were educated about the discipline that the sport provides. In addition to a boxing program that’s attracted children as young as five, the gym has martial arts training, a wrestling program, a basketball court and ping pong tables.
All members receive hands-on training from Judah, former two division world champion Junior “Poison” Jones, famed Butterbean conqueror Mitch Rose and Yoel’s son Daniel.
“We have a lot of kids here that are coming for free,” said Judah. “A lot of these kids have (no family life) and no money. The gym keeps them off the streets and out of trouble, which is extremely important.”
With the assistance and dedication of his hard-working trainers, Judah is organizing a series of fundraisers for the gym.
