Sergio Martinez battles Darren Barker on October 1; Andrade vs. Duran tonight

New York, NY – (9/21/2011) – Next Saturday, the #1 middleweight and top three pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (47-2-2, 26KO’s) will be putting his World Boxing Council (WBC) Middleweight Diamond belt and Ring Championship on the line against undefeated European Champion “Dazzling” Darren Barker (23-0, 14KO’s) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. The show, entitled “Noche de ‘Maravilla’: Martinez vs. Barker”, is being presented by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Matchroom Sport, and Caesars Atlantic City, and is sponsored by Corona.

With the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 just passing, Martinez made it clear to his promoter, Lou DiBella, founder and President of DiBella Entertainment, that he wanted to do something to honor the fallen heros of that tragic day.

“Sergio told me that he wanted to do something to honor the heros of 9/11,” said DiBella. “We tossed around a few ideas with him, and ultimately Sergio decided that he wanted to offer discounted tickets to all members of the armed forces, both active and veterans, and all members of any first-respond units: policemen, firemen, EMT workers. It is Sergio’s way of giving back, and in honoring the anniversary of 9/11.”

“It would be my pleasure and honor to have all the Police, Fire,Veterans, and all servicemen and women, who put themselves in harm’s way, join me and my team on October 1st, in Atlantic City, at Boardwalk Hall. Living here in this country has made me sensitive to the significance of what happened on that tragic day. I promise to put on great show and I dedicate this victory to all of you who help protect us everyday,” said the champion Martinez.

UNBEATENS LUIS RAMOS JR. AND RONNY RIOS ARE JOINED BY JOSE SANCHEZ FOR BIG NIGHT OF BOXING IN ORANGE COUNTY

LOS ANGELES, September 21 – Ready to make their announcement to the world that their town is a Southern California boxing hotbed, Santa Ana’s Luis Ramos Jr., Ronny Rios and Jose Sanchez will be part of history on Friday, September 30 at The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center, as that night’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate” event on TeleFutura will be the first event in Orange County fight history to have three Santa Ana fighters on the same card.

In the main event, scheduled for 10 rounds in the lightweight division, Ramos returns to action to compete in his long-awaited clash against “Dangerous” David Rodela. Taking to the ring in the eight-round junior lightweight co-main event will be Rios, who risks his perfect pro record against an opponent to be determined. Representing the third part of the Santa Ana trio will be junior lightweight Sanchez, who will face an opponent to be named in a four round bout.

This exciting night of world class professional boxing is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Roy Englebrecht Promotions and is sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T. Doors open at 7:00pm PT, the first bell rings at 7:30pm PT and the TeleFutura broadcast begins at 11:30pm ET / PT (10:30pm CT).

Tickets priced at $30 are on sale now and available for purchase at www.fightcluboc.com or by calling Roy Englebrecht Promotions at (949) 760-3131.

The pride of Santa Ana, Calif., Luis Ramos Jr. (19-0, 8 KO’s) was originally scheduled to face David Rodela in August, but he was attacked by three thugs during fight week and was forced out of the bout. The 23-year-old bounced back quickly, was cleared to resume training and he’s eager to make a statement against Rodela on September 30. With a 2-0 record in 2011 including a big win over Francisco Lorenzo in his most recent outing in June, Ramos is right on track for a big finish to the year should he beat his Southern California rival Rodela.

Oxnard, California’s “Dangerous” David Rodela (15-4-3, 6 KO’s) has had his share of ups and downs over the last couple years, but with his head clear and a major fight against the unbeaten Ramos coming up, the 29-year old is poised for a comeback. The owner of wins over world-class competitors like Kevin Kelley, Jose Luis Soto Karass and Julio Gamboa, Rodela has already proven himself to fight fans, but he believes he’s just scratched the surface of his potential. He’ll look to make a big statement to that effect by pinning the first loss on Ramos’ record on the 30th.

21-year-old Ronny Rios (15-0, 7 KO’s) of Santa Ana, Calif. has continued his steady run through the 130-pound weight class in 2011, decisioning 12-1 fellow prospect Georgi Kevlishvili and taking just 72 seconds to dispatch Noe Lopez Jr.

The third Santa Ana standout who will see action on September 30 is 20-year-old Jose Manuel Sanchez (5-2, 2 KO’s), a promising southpaw who is beginning to show off the talent that has fight fans on the edge of their seats whenever he fights. Fresh off of an impressive summer that saw him win two in a row over Luis Martinez and Ricardo Garcia, Sanchez is promising to kick off the fall with another victory.

Fans at home can also be part of the action by participating in Cinturón Tecate and voting for the fighter in the main event who displayed the most character in the ring by sending a text message to 55333. Voting will be open through the end of the weekend.

ANDRADE BATTLES DURAN IN “FIGHT TO EDUCATE NIGHT”
