Floyd Mayweather Senior Thinks Oscar De La Hoya Will Fight At Least Once More, Wants To Train Him Again

By James Slater: Ace trainer Floyd Mayweather Senior is of the opinion that Oscar De La Hoya will fight again. The former trainer of “The Golden Boy” spoke with Fighthype.com recently, and he expressed this opinion.

“I’m going to be honest with you, man, I think Oscar will fight again,” he said to Percy Crawford. “Hopefully he straightened himself out in rehab and everything, but I think he will go one more time, if not more.”

De La Hoya, now aged 38, has as we know had a spell in rehab as Mayweather said. Oscar is said to be doing great and feeling fine; but does this mean he will actually consider a return to the ring? There are often rumours put out there that “The Golden Boy” will partake in a one-fight comeback; and that Oscar would do this primarily because of the way he is unhappy at the way his last fight ended against Manny Pacquiao. No great fighter likes to end his career sat on his stool, and De La Hoya is no different; so say the people who insist the former six weight champion will box once more anyway.

De La Hoya has almost certainly grown tired of denying these rumours, and this latest case is likely to be no different. However, it is strange that Mayweather Snr sounds so convinced that his former charge will box again. Certainly, if the superstar did lace ‘em up again, the event would attract a ton of attention. Could Oscar still pull in a high number of fans via Pay-Per-View? No doubt about it.

De La Hoya has yet to add anything to his Twitter page regarding this latest comeback rumour. Would a De La Hoya return be a good thing for the sport, or a bad thing? I must admit, I’d definitely watch if Oscar came back to face a top name.

Mayweather Snr added that if De La Hoya does indeed come back, “he better come see me.” Obviously, the father of the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Junior is interested in working with Oscar once again.
