GBP congratulates Amir Khan, Marcos Maidana, Robert Guerrero & Caplan for receiving BWAA Awards

LOS ANGELES, January 25 – Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) is pleased to congratulate Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and Bill Caplan on their being named 2010 Boxing Writers Association of America award recipients for the Ali-Frazier Fight of the Year Award, the Bill Crawford Award for “Courage in Overcoming Adversity” and the Marvin Kohn “Good Guy” Award respectively.

The December 11, 2010 battle between WBA Super Lightweight World Champion Amir “King” Khan and then WBA Super Lightweight Interim World Champion Marcos “Chino” Maidana had fans on the edges of their seats for 12 stirring rounds. The fight saw Maidana battle through a first round knockdown and a dominant early-rounds performance by Khan when the Argentine closed the gap in the late rounds. Khan displayed some fortitude of his own in surviving a vicious tenth round onslaught by Maidana in which the British star looked to be on the brink of being knocked out. Khan survived and came out swinging in the eleventh and twelfth round sealing the unanimous decision victory in an instant classic.

The moving story of former Two-Division World Champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, who returned to the ring in April after taking time off to care for his wife Casey as she battled and overcame cancer, was inspiring to all and earned him the Bill Crawford Award for “Courage in Overcoming Adversity.”

All of those were factors in him earning the Marvin Kohn “Good Guy” Award from the.
