By James Slater – Though fans are almost certainly sick to death of the annoying Klitschko-Haye saga that is still ongoing, with both men pointing the finger at the other when it comes to why the unification bout has not yet been signed; Wladimir has today said he is more than happy to face Haye on July 2nd. In Klitschko’s mind, the fight is not yet “dead,” because he feels Haye’s constant talk of retiring in October of this year is nothing but another “lie.”
“Dr. Steel Hammer” today launched a stinging tirade against Haye and his manager Adam Booth; saying he “does not trust these guys any more.” Wladimir went further, calling Haye “a piece of s**t, and “a liar who is playing the media..”
Wladimir says fighting Derek Chisora on April 30th and then Haye, nine weeks later on July 2nd, would be no problem for him.
“I don’t take David Haye as a super-special fight,” Klitschko told Sky Sports. “I don’t need half a year to prepare for this fight. I’m always in shape anyway. Me fighting Chisora first is good promotion for the fight with Haye because this guy is also British and very loud. He [Haye] could give [Ruslan] Chagaev step-aside money and then I’m going to be there with nobody to fight.
“I would fight him July 2nd, we would work on the contract, but I would fight Chisora first and make sure I fight.”
To many fans, the plan Wladimir has – of taking a fight with Chisora before he fights Haye, so as to make sure he remains sharp – is a perfectly fine plan. But Haye, for whatever reason, walked when Klitschko announced that this is what he wanted to do. Haye, as he has said, does not believe Klitschko will fight again as soon as July 2nd, and as a result he has begun talks with his mandatory, Ruslan Chagaev.
But Klitschko is of the belief that Haye will eventually face him in the ring.
“He has this terrible disease and he has to retire? What bulls**t is that?,” Klitschko said. “ This is total nonsense. He is playing the media. He will not retire because he is a liar, liar, liar. From the beginning to the end, he’s a loser [and a] liar. This guy will eventually fight me. He will eventually fight me because everything coming out of his mouth is a lie.
“But if he does retire, he will be a loser with absolutely no legacy in the heavyweight division at all.”
It sounds to me as though Wladimir isn’t quite sure whether or not Haye will indeed call it quits in October after all. And as far as legacy goes; Haye has suggested he will be content with the legacy he built up as a cruiserweight. Haye says Wladimir is the one who will have to worry about having no heavyweight legacy. Who needs this fight the most: Haye or Klitschko?
At present, one guy claims he still wants the fight for July 2nd (Wladimir), while the other guy has seemingly moved on. Who’s fooling who?
