By Matthew Paras: Jaime Herrera vs. Eric Draper: Local Welterweight Prospect Jaime Herrera opened up Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions’ “Windy City Fight Night” with a roaring Chicago crowd supporting him against Indiana native Eric Draper by unanimous decisions of 39-37 twice and 40-36. Herrera was tentative the first round as he calmly stalked Draper not throwing much, while Draper landed some blows to win the round. In round two, Herrera calmed any nerves he had in the first round by landing sharp left hands that sent Draper back. Since then, Herrera controlled the pace to outwork Draper and win a unanimous decision..
Kryzstof Zimnoch vs Joey Montoya:
Heavyweight up and comers Kyrzstof Zimnoch (2-0-1, 2 KOs) and Joey Montoya (1-0-2, 1 KO) fought to an exciting majority draw. An explosive Polish Crowd cheered on Heavyweight Kryzstof Zimnoch as he battled back from a second round knockdown, but still wasn’t able to shake off Joey Montoya. Both fighters stuck in the pocket trading left hooks and right hands with each other. Zimnoch was deducted a point in round one for hitting behind the head in a round in which he was winning. In round two, Montoya followed up off the point deduction by surprisingly sending Zimnoch down with a right hand. Zimnoch was hurt, but Monotya couldn’t capitalize. The next two rounds were highly entertaining with back and forth action, that was closely fought. Scores were 37-36 Zimnoch and 37-37 twice.
Kendall Gill vs. Miles Kelly:
Former NBA player, Kendall Gill improved his professional career to 4-0 as he beat unknown Miles Kelly to win a third round knockout.Gill used his long southpaw jab to control the distance. During the second round, Kelly tried to get on the inside only to be floored by a picture perfect counter right hook. Gill was cautious in chasing after Kelly, but it only took him one more round for him to send Kelly to the canvas, this time with a straight left hand. Kelly showed no signs of getting up and Referee Pete Podgorski stopped the contest at 2:54.
Andrzej Fonfara vs Roger Cantrell:
In what was an impressive display of skills, Polish Andrzej Fonfara captured the WBC Youth Light Heavyweight “championship” by knocking out Seattle native Roger Cantrell with a beautiful left hook, right hand combination during round number four. After a sluggish first round, Fonfara upped his work rate and established the pace with constantly connecting with left hooks and right hands. Roger Cantrell just could not get on the inside or deal with Fonfara’s accurate punches. Time was 1:01.
