Julio – Angulo Weigh-In Drama

Friday, 4/23 – Ontario, CA – The undercard weigh-in for this Saturday’s “Ring of Fire” boxing show was held at the Hilton Ontario Airport Hotel this afternoon. The Jr. Middleweight co-feature was supposed to be first on scale however; Alfredo Angulo failed to show at the scheduled report time. Rumors quickly began circulating about Angulo being overweight. Members of Angulo’s camp present at the weigh in claimed he was stuck in traffic.

After waiting more than 1 hour the commission allowed the rest of the undercard to weigh in. While waiting, Joel Julio calmly passed the time talking with his camp. Angulo showed up 1-3/4 hours late.

Somber looking, Angulo was first on the scale, coming in at 153 -3/4 lbs. Joel Julio, looking amazingly fit, weighed in at 153 -1/4 lbs. Anthony Hamm, Julio’s trainer, joyously cried out “And that’s without missing one meal!”

The California Boxing Commission fined Angulo $15,000 for being late to the weigh-in. It was agreed by all parties that the fine money would be paid to Joel Julio.
