Comments by Maidana and Poszwa after the sensational KO Show in Las Vegas

Knockout artist Marcos Rene Maidana (28-1, 27 KOs) has lived up to his name after his sensational debut fight at the Boxing Mecca in Las Vegas. The WBA Interim light welterweight world champion scored a sixth round KO over previously unbeaten Victor Cayo (24-1, 15 KOs) on Saturday night in “The Joint” at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Maidana dropped Cayo at the end of round two, then continued to break down Cayo, finishing him with a body shot at 1:38 of the sixth round.

What for a knockout show of the Universum fighter live on HBO! Universum Vice Dietmar Poszwa was following the fight live from ringside: „Both fighters were attacking from the beginning and landed each a lot of punches. I’m not sure if this was the right decision of Cayo as you have seen how it ended.“

As the bell rang at the end of round 2 Maidana’s left hook, already launched, sizzled its way to Cayo’s head dropping the Dominican to the canvas for a knockdown. Cayo was counted but came back up to his feet. Over the distance Maidana became more dominant. In the sixth, Maidana made once again a brutal attack towards Cayo landing a number of blasting body shots taking the breath of his opponent and flooring him to the canvas for the count. Cayo was counted out at 1:38. Dietmar Poszwa: „It was the spectacular fight we have hoped for. The crowd here at the Hard Rock Casino and watching live on HBO were fascinated. Everyone is amazed by the punching power of Marcos. He always gives everything and he has started to win the hearts of the American boxing fans. HBO wants more and we are also up fot it. It was a great success here in Las Vegas. We love to work with Mario Margossian and Golden Boy Promotions. Thanks for a great night.”

Marcos Maidana stated afterwards: „I’m very happy. from the beginning I know it’s going to happen, scoring a knockout. I have a lot of respect for Cayo, he was a strong challenger. He was very tough and had a lot of movement. I was looking for the knockout and I had no doubt that I will get him at one point. Thanks to my management for making this fight possible. I will not put a bullseye on my next opponent as I trust in my promoter. I don’t mind if I’m fighting next against Amir Khan or whoever. I will beat everyone.“

The 26 year old Maidana, who is called “El Chino” (the Chinese because of his eyes) fights for the Universum team since 2007 and had trained at the Universum Gym in Hamburg until the beginning of 2009.
