By Matthew Paras – Maurice Harris vs. Julius Long: Two heavyweight journeymen battled it out to start off Dominic Pesoli’s Windy City Fight Night 9 card. Maurice Harris (22-14-2, 10 KOs) controlled the pace of the fight with a higher work rate to win a unanimous decision over Julius Long (15-14, 13 KOs). Long lost two points in rounds 2 and 5 for rough tactics, but the deductions did not hurt him as scores were 59-53 across the board. Long has dropped six in a row, while Harris improves to a two fight win streak..
Sergio Cristobal vs. Deobe William Thomas:
Sergio Cristobal (2-1) and Deobe William Thomas (1-2-1) did not have much to prove, but none the less gave an entertaining scrap to the fans. The fight featured a high paced work rate and great toe to toe action as the junior featherweight Cristobal got the better of it. Cristobal survived a nasty cut over the right eyebrow caused by an accidental headbutt to win a unanimous decision by scores of 40-36, 39-37, 39-37. Thomas seemed upset by the decision, but Cristobal clearly won because of the cleaner punches and body work.
Adrian Granados vs. William Ware:
Local boy and Junior Welterweight Adrian Granados (4-1, 3 KOs) took only two rounds to stop Augusta native William Ware (2-2, 1 KO) in an impressive display of speed and power. Granados dropped Ware four times throughout the fight, twice in the first and twice n the second. The final knockdown was a beautiful left hook to the body that had referee Celestino Ruiz not even bothering to count. Time was 1:12 in Round 2.
Krzystof Zimnoch vs. Dustin Hedrick:
Polish prospect Kryzstof Zimnoch (2-0, 2 KOs) did not take long to stop Dustin Hedrick (1-4) as it took him only 40 seconds to send Hedrick to the canvas with a right hand. Hedrick was clearly confused with what hit him and had no sense of what was going on around him. Referee Gerald Scott called the contest at: 40.
William Hernandez vs. Juan Baltierrez:
Chicago prospect William Hernandez (3-0) racked up a decision win over Juan Baltierrez (0-5-1). Baltierrez, for being winless, showed great heart and took Herandez’s body assault. Hernandez’s advantage in reach and a killer left hand caused him to prevail. Scores were 40-36×3.
David Latoria vs. Tim Back:
In a very strange bout, David Latoria (5-0, 3 KOs) stopped Tim Back (2-2, 1 KO) in the very first round. Latoria didn’t really land anything noteworthy to stop the bout, but Back suddenly stopped throwing back. Back, apparently into much pain to fight, went into a defensive shell afterward landing a right hand on Latoria’s elbow. Tim Back’s corner threw in the towel at 2:24 to prevent him from taking any unnecessary punishment.
Jason Robinson vs. Harvey Jolley:
Tough, but rugged Cruiserweight veteran Jason Robinson (18-5, 11 KOs) traded knockdowns with Harvey Jolley (10-14-1, 5 KOs) only to win a workman like decision. Harvey Jolley got off to a good start in round 1 as he sent Robinson to the canvas. Robinson was not fazed as he managed to knockdown Jolley in round 2. Robinson then took full control with the rest of the rounds by keeping up the pressure, never letting Jolley get set. Scores were 59-54 and 58-54×2.
