Dominic Vea wins interim WBO Oriental belt with 2nd round win

Dominic ‘The Dominator’ Vea won the Interim WBO Oriental Cruiserweight Title against Seiaute Mailata last night in the headline bout at Blacktown RSL. Mailata (22-12-9-1, 9KO) weighed in heavier than Vea and showed early glimpses of promise, but quickly succumbed to Vea’s expert body shots.

Vea, (13-12-1, 10KO) unable to train strongly in the week leading up to the bout due to a slightly injured leg, satisfied a sell-out crowd with a convincing win over his Kiwi opponent. Vea knocked down Mailata twice in the second round before the referee stepped in and awarded the fight to Vea.

With this win, Vea secured the interim WBO Oriental cruiserweight belt, retained his OPBF Crusierweight title, and picked up Mailata’s South Pacific Cruiserweight title. Securing the interim WBO Oriental Cruiserweight belt ensures that further high profile matches await. Vea’s team is currently in negotiations with the Commonwealth champion and are seeking other international opponents.

Victorian boxer Jonny Walker must face Dominic or relinquish his title, thus allowing Dominic the opportunity to claim the title outright.

“This is a very pleasing result for Dom. He didn’t train intensely in the week leading up to the fight, but his core fitness and strength were on show tonight, It is clear that he is Australia’s number 1 cruiserweight,” said Dylan Nye, Core Strength Gym’s Head Trainer.
