Euro Boxing News: Rakhim Chakhkiev turns pro, Kessler-Perdomo, Macklin, More

By Per Ake Persson: 26-year old Russian Rakhim Chakhkiev have signed with Universum. Chakhkiev won Olympic gold medal 2008 at heavyweight and will make his prodebut at cruiser. He will be trained by Michael Timm. Chakhkiev also won bronze in the 2007 world championships and gold in the world military championships in 2006.

The Polish mega-fight between the comebacking heavyweight Andrew Golota and reigning IBF cruiser champ Tomasz Adamek appears to be on for October 10 in Poland. Adamek comes up from ligh theavy and as good as he is he will still be giving away lots in weight and strength. Then again the 41-year Golota have a long and tough career behind him.

Although Sauerland Event have announced Mikkel Kessler´s defence of the WBA supermiddleweight title against Venezuelan Gusmyl Perdomo as on for September 12, in Herning, Denmark, one have take into account that the contractual disputes with Team Palle are unsolved.

WBF heavy champ Francois “the White Buffalo” Botha have been signed to a promotional deal by SES in Magdeburg, Germany. SES employ WBF´s European coordinator Olaf Schroeder as matchmaker. Botha will defend the title during the fall and it´s me guessing but I believe the opponent will be a German heavyweight.

It´s nothing new but former French middleweight Stephane Ferrara, a national champ in the pros who fought for the EBU middleweight in 1983, is today an actor and director and is currently working on a documentary about the French amateur boxers in the 2008 Olympics.
