PAWTUCKET , RI (June 30, 2009) Amidst the sweltering summer heat and humidity in Pawtucket , Rhode Island , trains the Fighting Pride of Northern Nevada, Jesse Brinkley, in preparation for his light heavyweight showdown with Baltimore ’s Mike “THE PERSECUTOR” Paschall on Friday, July 10th at the Reno Events Center . The Brinkley/Gilbert main event headlines “SUMMER SHOWDOWN”, an outstanding evening of boxing presented by Reno ’s “Let’s Get It On” Promotions and Las Vegas based TKO BOXING Promotions..
Taking a break after an intense session of sparring with a variety of southpaws in preparation for the left handed Paschall, Brinkley spoke about the fight.
“Leaving home and coming here to train is what’s best for me. Mr. Manfredo has set up an excellent camp and my training has gone extremely well. Come July 10th, I’ll be ready for whatever Paschall brings to the ring” said Brinkley.
“I’d much rather be home with my family and friends but being away from them makes me bitter and mean so maybe it works better for me. By the time I leave to return for the fight I’ll have been in camp for five weeks.”
In regards to Paschall’s comments discrediting Brinkley’s previous fight, a 12 round unanimous decision win over Joey Gilbert on February 14th at the Reno Event Center ,
which drew a crowd of over 6,500, Brinkley said, “Paschall can say what he wants. Gilbert came to fight but after his nose was broken in the fifth round, his game planned changed a little.”
“All the talk won’t mean much on July 10th, we’re going to have the gloves on and we’re going to settle it in the ring. I know he’s only lost once on a cut and he’s very confident, we’ll see how far that confidence takes him.”
Just before leaving the gym, Brinkley had a message for his thousands of fans in Northern Nevada, “I love fighting in Reno, it’s going to be great to see my friends and family and feel the terrific support I get from the fans there, I’m sure it will be packed at the Events Center like it was last time.”
“And I’m looking forward to shutting Paschall’s mouth.”
Brinkley, 33-5-0 (22KO’s), is riding a seven bout winning streak which culminated in the unanimous decision win over Gilbert at the packed Reno Events Center . He is currently world ranked #8 by the International Boxing Federation.
Paschall, 19-1-1 with four knockouts, has won his last two bouts following the SHOWTIME broadcast bout against Andre Dirrell which was ruled a loss by TKO when
the doctor ruled Paschall could not continue due to a bad cut suffered in the fourth round.

FRES OQUENDO RETURNS IN CHICAGO ON FRIDAY, JULY 24TH
CHICAGO, IL (June 30, 2009) Fresh off a devastating third round knockout win this past Friday night, two time world title challenger “FAST” Fres Oquendo will return to action against WBO Latino Heavyweight Champion, Argentinean Gonzalo Omar Basile in the ten round main event at “WINDY CITY FIGHT NIGHT 4” on Friday, July 24th at Chicago’s UIC Pavilion.

Oquendo, now 30-5-0 with nineteen knockouts, was dominant Friday night from the opening bell against the rugged New Jersey native Mark Brown. Dropping Brown twice hard in the third round, the bout was waived off by referee Geno Rodriguez at the 2:58 mark with a badly hurt Brown unable to defend himself.
Said Oquendo, “He tried to make it a street fight but I kept my cool, hurt him from the start and took him out when the time came. It was terrific fighting in my hometown of Chicago, the fans were very supportive.”
The knockout win over Brown was Oquendo’s first bout in the Chicagoland area in nine years.
Said Pesoli, “Fres looked like a world class heavyweight on Friday night. Our fans were thrilled to see him and wanted to know when he’s fighting again in Chicago . We’re proud to bring him back so quickly against Basile who he was originally supposed to fight.”
The knockout win over Brown for the WBC Latino Heavyweight Title was Oquendo’s first as part of the Simmons Entertainment Marketing LLC management group, headed by NBA Star Bobby Simmons.
The Puerto Rican born Oquendo was coming off a highly controversial split decision loss to former world champion James Toney on December 13th.
Basile, 41-4-0 (19KO’s), has won nine in a row, capturing the WBO Latino Heavyweight Title with a third round stoppage of Daniel Frank on February 14th of this year.
The undercard at “WINDY CITY FIGHT NIGHT 4” is headlined by a terrific lightweight bout between Chicagoans Gadiel Andaluz and Oscar De La Cruz.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, the 26 year old Andaluz won his first three professional bouts in Chicago last year before suffering a setback against Dannie Williams in Tacoma, Washington late last year which moved his record to 3-1-0 (2KO’s).
A native of Mexico City, De La Cruz brings a competitive record of 5-6-0 (2KO’s) into the bout with Andaluz. His eleven pro bouts include battles against outstanding young prospects Matt Remillard, Mike Oliver and Argenis Mendez.

Recently signed to the Reno based “Let’s Get It On” Promotions banner, the 26 year old Nugaev, brings a record of 19-5-1 (11KO’s) into the battle with Huerta. He is riding a four bout winning streak, all of the bouts coming in his native Russia, most recently knocking out former world title challenger Justin Juuko in the second round on November 15, 2008, capturing the International Boxing Association Lightweight Title.
In his last bout in the United States, Nugaev brutally knocked out undefeated prospect Anthony Mora in the fifth round on March 3, 2006. The fight was broadcast live on SHOWTIME from Santa Ynez, California ..
