Busy Week For The Golden Boy Promotions Team

LOS ANGELES, May 21 – There is no rest for the Golden Boy Promotions team in or out of the ring this week, and the Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez international press tour is only the tip of the iceberg for the hardest working promotional team in the boxing business. In addition to the press tour, which has already hit Los Angeles, New York and London, six of Golden Boy’s finest will step into the ring this week for pivotal battles on their road to world championships..

Tonight, Thursday, May 21st, rising star Vicente Escobedo (20-1, 12 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time since his stirring ten round win over former World Champion Carlos Hernandez on April 4th, and he’ll be looking to add the name of another former world champion to his resume when he takes on Kevin Kelley (60-9-2, 39 KOs) at ARCO Arena in Sacramento. Also in action on the same show will be unbeaten heavyweight prospect Ashanti “The Boss” Jordan (8-0, 7 KOs) in a six round fight against upset minded Alvaro Morales (3-4-5).

Tomorrow night, Friday, May 22nd, Cuban phenom Erislandy Lara (5-0, 3 KOs) will return to the ESPN2 airwaves for a tough Friday Night Fights bout against veteran Edwin Vazquez (22-13-2, 8 KOs) at the Fontainbleau Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.

Saturday night, May 23rd, is just as busy for Golden Boy Promotions, as former World Bantamweight Champion Jhonny Gonzalez (40-6, 34 KOs) looks to become a title holder in a second weight class when he battles Toshiaki Nishioka (33-4-3, 20 KOs) for the WBC Super Bantamweight Championship at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. Gonzalez is currently riding a six fight winning streak that includes five straight knockouts.

Also on Saturday, at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, unbeaten lightweight prospect Adrien Broner (9-0, 6 KOs) and 2008 United States Olympic Bronze Medalist Deontay Wilder (4-0, 4 KOs) both return to action in separate bouts. Broner sees action in a six round bout against an opponent to be determined while Wilder faces 22-fight veteran Charles Brown in a four round affair.
