Chris Arreola: “The Fight With Vitali Klitschko is close… very close”

chris arreolaExclusive Inteview by Waldon “The Boxing Don” White – Current WBC #1 ranked contender Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (27-0, 24KO) took a few minutes to speak about his upcoming plans and feelings about the Heavyweight title shot he is presently pursuing. Arreola is looking to make boxing history by becoming the first Mexican Heavyweight World Champion. This is a path that may lead him through one of the two reigning Klitschko Brother’s Vladimir (52-3, 46KO IBF, WBO) and Vitali (37-2, 36KO WBC) who in many eyes can only be beat possibly by one another.

Although the WBA is currently sorting out it’s title situation matching up current title holder Nikolai Valuev (50-1, 34KO) against WBA “Champion in Recess” Ruslan Chagaev (25-0, 17KO) at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki May 30th, many including myself feel that any Heavyweight making claim for the title should fight one of the Klitschko brothers to be really recognized legitimately..

There has been a general perception that Arreola comes into most fights overweight and with stamina issues which could prove to be a deadly combination for the young fighter should he face one of the dangerous Klitschko brothers this year. He has heavy hands and a desire to bring at least a portion of the Heavyweight crown back to American soil which has given many hope as he ever closer to a possible showdown with Vitali as he is the #1 contender for his WBC crown. This would be the toughest and hardest hitting opponent the Riverside California resident has ever faced and could potentially temporarily derail his Title hopes if he is not prepared properly (weight, stamina and defense) against Dr. Iron Fist. With this in mind I was able to get “The Nightmare” to let everyone know what is currently on his mind.

TBD: So Chris it looks like your about to fight Vitali Klitschko?

Chris Arreola: “It’s close…it’s very close we hope it gets done.”

TBD: Your one of the top guys in the Title pursuit right now in the Heavyweight division, what are your thoughts on that race?

Chris Arreola: “First of all I want to get in a Title fight, I need it…everybody out there wants it.” “I don’t want to just be a one-hit wonder, I want to be able to defend the Title and Fight the best.” “If Vladimir beats Haye or Haye beats Vladimir whatever it is then I want to go after them and just take care of all the other Heavyweights out there!”

TBD: I know that you want to be a part of the line of undisputed champions holding all of the alphabet belts what are your thoughts on cleaning out the division to accomplish this?

Chris Arreola: “That what I want to do, but you know what there are so many politics involved in it you know. They (WBC) just stripped Timothy Bradley you know and it’s sad because we work so hard to get there and then they strip you because you want to fight somebody else and win another World Title so it’s sad and I feel bad for that but regardless I’m going to do all I can in my power to be the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion”

TBD: Alright, can you tell the fans at Eastside Boxing and around the world what words you have directly for the Klitschko camp since it seems your so close to securing a fight to get them up and say enough already and seal the deal?

Chris Arreola: “You know you’ve already said the words I want to say.” “Lets get it Done Man!, Lets get it Done!” “Regardless man…if it doesn’t get done, I’m gonna kick down the door.” “I’m gonna kick the door in and they are going to have to fight me!” “Like I said if It happens I will be happy and grateful but if it doesn’t like I said I’m gonna kick the door in!”

TBD: Okay Chris thank you so much for letting the fans know a little about whats going on with you right now and I’ll be talking to you really soon so we can go more in depth.

Chris Arreola, despite apparent weight issues and stamina questions is an American Heavyweight who has heavy hands and can possibly give the fans a true shootout with one of the current Heavyweight Kingpins. Many questions still remain: Will he be able to get in the best shape of his life and shed the pounds around his mid-section? Will his chin stand up against Dr. Iron Fist? Does he really have the killer instinct to change the Heavyweight Championship landscape? Do we really need an “American” Heavyweight champion anymore? We’ll go in deep next time and find out what’s really good with Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola. Until then let me know what questions you the fan have for Chris and your thoughts on the Heavyweight landscape.
