News: Leo Nolan; Ashanti Jordan; Carina Moreno

Detroit heavyweight contender Leo “Paco” Nolan, 27-1 (10 KO’s), is tired of American fighters being overlooked in the heavyweight division. Nolan was slated to take on Russian Denis Boytsov on June 6th, but was bumped out of the fight in favor of Ukrainian Taras Bidenko, with no explanation. Nolan, who is frequently flown overseas to spar heavyweights like Ruslan Chagaev, Nikolay Valuev, Alexander Povetkin and Vitali Klitschko, has had enough of the European fighters refusing to fight American heavyweights..

Nolan has plenty to say on the subject. “Why are the Europeans afraid to step up to American heavyweight opponents? I guess they have no problem bringing us in for sparring partners, but that is the safe way. Why won’t they take a step up in opponents and take on an American heavyweight? Why don’t they take on me? I have a great record, have fought top opponents and have earned a shot. Is there something that I doing wrong that’s preventing me from getting a big fight? The fight I was scheduled to fight against Denis Boytsov had a signed contract, but somehow Universium was able to get out of that contract too easily. How do Boytsov and Universium get around a signed fight contract, just to replace me with a fighter of lesser caliber?

The fight I had scheduled with Shane Cameron was cancelled by what his people called a “visa problem” Look, I travel overseas all the time to spar, and never have a problem. Then, when Shane Cameron actually realizes he is fighting me, they invent the visa excuse and get out of that fight. Both Boytsov and Cameron got out of those fights with lame excuses. These guys both talk about wanting competition, but they won’t fight competition. This also goes for the titleholders. They complain that they are not getting challenged, but they refuse to step up to a challenge. I guess I am good enough to spar Ruslan Chagaev, but when it comes down to putting the belt on the line, he refuses to take me on. I’m here and I’ll take on anybody! Anyone with a title, anyone who is a top flight fighter, anyone who will meet me for a title eliminator bout, anybody who wants to step up to top opposition.”

Leo Nolan will be the guest on “Talkin’ Boxing with Billy C” May 19th at 7am. Listen in to hear more of Leo’s thoughts on this subject.
