News: BJ Flores vs Herrera; Deontay Wilder; Mark Davis

LAS VEGAS, NV (March 10, 2009) World ranked cruiserweight BJ “EL PELIGROSO” Flores returns to action on Saturday, March 21st to face Columbian banger Jose Luis “EL PANTERA” Herrera in Pensacola, Florida in a twelve round bout for the NABO Cruiserweight Title. “I’m very excited for this opportunity, Herrera is a very hard hitting veteran, I saw what he did on ESPN with his great win over Aaron Williams last year and know that I’ll have to be at my very best to beat him” said Flores. ‘He’s a legitimate force in the division and has never gone the distance, either he knocks me out or I knock him out which should make for an action packed fight for the fans..”

The Miami based Herrera brings a record of 16-5-1 into the battle with Flores, all of his wins and losses coming by knockout.

The Flores/Herrera bout is the co-main event to “MARCH BADNESS” at the Pensacola Civic Center featuring the return of native son and boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. who will battle Omar Sheika in the main event.

The Arizona based Flores, 22-0-1 (14KO’s), now training in Las Vegas is ranked #7 by the WBO and the WBA, #9 by the WBC and #12 by the IBF. He returned to the ring on January 23rd in Las Vegas with a third round knockout of Matt Hicks.

“It was great to get back after an 11 month layoff against Hicks, but I really want to fight often this year and I’m looking forward to putting on a great performance on March 21st. Roy has been a legend in boxing and I’m honored to fight on this show in front of his hometown fans” said Flores.

“I’ve wanted to fight for a world title for a long time and in 2009 I hope to finally get my opportunity. If I beat Herrera, I want to face WBO Champion Victor Ramirez immediately. I don’t want to waste any time, if it means going to Argentina, then that’s what I’ll do.”

Prior to facing Hicks, Flores won an ESPN televised twelve round decision over Darnell Wilson o February 8, 2008 for the USBA Cruiserweight Title.

DEONTAY WILDER LOOKS IMPRESSIVE IN SECOND PROFESSIONAL BOUT SCORING FIRST ROUND TKO

LOS ANGELES (March 10, 2009) – As the boxing year charges full steam ahead, 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist Deontay Wilder, the lone United States Boxing Medalist from the Beijing Games, is already making a statement in his first year of professional boxing. The heavyweight looked impressive in scoring a first round technical knockout victory against Shannon Gray (1-1) at the Trotter Convention Center in Columbus, Mississippi on Friday, March 6th.

The four round main event ended abruptly in the first round after Wilder landed a left hook-right hand combination that knocked Gray into the ropes. Wilder followed up and landed a right hand to score the first knockdown of the bout. Gray got back to his feet but was immediately caught with a flurry of punches. A body shot to Gray’s mid-section resulted in a second knockdown and when Gray was unable to stand, a victory for Wilder.

With the win, Wilder’s professional record increased to 2-0 with 2 KO’s . He will look to increase his win total to three in his next bout which will take place on Saturday, March 14th at the Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

FIGHTS AT THE FITZ SATURDAY MARCH 14TH

Memphis native, Mark Davis 10-0, 4KO?s is kicking off the nights action in a scheduled eight round featherweight match-up against Mexican, Adauto Gonzalez 10-5, 3KO?s. Straight out of the ATL and recently signed Prize Fight prospect Tyrese “Head Honcho” Hendrix 15-0-1, 6KO’s will face St Louis native, Philip “Bring The” Pain 16-21-1, 8KO?s in an eight round lightweight clash.

2004 Beijing Olympic alternate, highly acclaimed and decorated amateur stand-out middleweight Shawn Porter 5-0, 4KO?s looks to add another win to his budding record. Porter who is trained by his father Ken Porter, has blazed a remarkable trail through the boxing world, “the best is yet to come” says Porter, but if what we have seen so far is any indication of the future; the boxing world should consider themselves notified.
