By Coach “K” – September 26th, the Huntington Hilton, Huntington, New York: Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions brought a night of Havoc to Long Island. Duffy and matchmaker Frank Mullen put together an entertaining fight card comprised of many of New York’s top prospects. Cruiserweight action opened the show with Ahmed 2-0 facing Andrew Hutchinson 2-9-2, both missing a Ko on their record. The evenly matched fight saw Samir the stronger bigger man pressing the action. Hutchinson was rocked by several Samir looping right hands losing his tenth by the scores 40-36 and 39-37 twice..
The second prelim matched middleweights Rakeem Carter 0-4-3, taking on highly touted prospect Lambros Karaolides making his pro debut. Karaolides came out charging at the opening bell pressing the action, forcing the more experienced Carter to move. As the round progressed and Karaolides jab and right hands began to land Carter’s movement fell just short of a track and field 220. Karaolides tuned his attack to the body slowing and stopping Carter with a solid 1-2 at 2:47 of the first round. The chaos had started.
In six round action Long Island favorite Tommy “The Razor” Rainone 11-1-0, 3 Ko’s was looking to get back on the winning track against Cleveland, Ohio’s Henry White 2-2-1,2 Ko’s. Rainone usually the slick moving counter puncher started slow with White establishing his jab early. “The Razor” got on track in the second round landing his straight left from his southpaw stance. The action turned rough in the third with some late punches and the two exchanged glares and words as well as punches. The rough play seemed to inspire White who turned the fight back in his favor with a good body attack and clean right hands off the jab. The crowd seemed to think the fight was close going into the sixth and final round but White settled it with clean scoring power punches pinning “The Razor” on the ropes several times. Rainone who must have thought he had the fight in the bag finally turned it up at the ten second warning. Havoc had hit the Hilton hard when the judges scores were announced giving white a split decision victory and Rainone his second straight loss. SBB had the fight 59- 55, White with the fourth being scored even.
Welterweight Chris Algieri 3-0, 2 Ko’s kept the “Havoc” in full gear destroying Clarence Smith 0-1-0, with pressure and some sharp combination punching from the opening bell punctuated by an loaded overhand right ending the fight at 2:07 of round one.
Four time New York Golden Glove winner Will Rosinsky 1-0, 1 Ko brought the crowd to their feet before he intimidated and inihilated New Jersey’s light heavyweight Michael Ciccone 1-4. Rosinsky’s assault showcased his superior skills, determination and experience leaving Ciccone on his back after taking several sharp combinations highlighted by hooks to the body planting the Jersey warrior in his back for the count forcing referee Tony Chiarantano to stop the beating at 2:07 of round one.
In the semi-main event Central Islip New York’s Darrell “King David” Madison 11-1(dq), 3 Ko’s the New York State Heavyweight Champion remained cool when he was made to wait almost 15 minutes in the ring for Wyandanch’s Elfair “The Wyandanch Warrior” McKnight. After finally entering the ring McKnight began his staring psych game while holding up the action waiting for a mouthpiece. When the action finally started the imperturbable Madison used a radar locked jab and tight defense to have his way with the “Wyandanch Warrior” and his psych game. Madison also mixed it up showing he can rumble inside when needed hurting McKnight with several uppercuts. Here at SBB we scored it a shutout for Madison.
“King David” is looking to take it to the next level and face off with amateur rival and fellow Long Islander Patchogue Medford’s favorite son Derrick Rossy. Rumors are dollars and cents are the only thing keeping these rivals apart. Madison the reigning NY State Champ should receive his fare share of the purse so who ever holds the purse strings reach deeper in your pocket as this is a sure winner and a fight that loyal Long Island fight fans dare waiting for and deserve.
Duffy and Mullen put Pawel “The Raging Bull” Wolak 21-1, 14 Ko’s back in the ring after his tough controversial loss to Ishe Smith against cagy veteran Chad Geenleaf 10-10-1, 4 Ko’s. Greenleaf who been in with several tough contenders like James Moore, Jesse Nicklow and Jimmy Lange could not hold up to the “Hitman” like pressure caving in the third round of their scheduled eight rounder. Wolak chased and pounded Greenleaf, finally pinning him against the ropes landing at will causing referee Arthur Mercante Jr. to call the action at 2:40 of round three.
