Tonight: Lacy vs Mendoza, Santa Cruz vs Munguia

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 23 – The weights are in for Golden Boy Promotions’ Wednesday night event featuring a ten-round super middleweight brawl between former Super Middleweight World Champion Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy and Colombian Epifanio Mendoza in the main event and an eight round battle pitting world number one ranked lightweight Jose Armando Santa Cruz against Mexico City’s Miguel Angel Munguia on ESPN’s Wednesday Night Fights at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California..

A 2000 United States Olympian, Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy (23-1, 17 KO’s) has been one of boxing’s most consistently exciting performers since he turned pro in 2001. The former World Super Middleweight Champion from St. Petersburg, Florida will face 32-year-old Colombian Epifanio Mendoza (28-5-1, 24 KOs) in a 10 round super middleweight bout.

Also appearing on the ESPN Wednesday Night Fights first broadcast from Morongo Casino will be world number one ranked lightweight and Lincoln Heights native, Jose Armando Santa Cruz (25-3, 14 KOs) who is hungry for a win and the chance at a title shot. Before he gets that opportunity, Santa Cruz will have to get past Mexico City, Mexico’s Miguel Angel Munguia (16-12-1, 13 KOs) in an eight-round bout on July 23rd.

Also featured on the Wednesday Night Fights telecast will be Brooklyn, New York’s rising middleweight star Daniel “The Golden Child” Jacobs (7-0, 7 KOs) who will look to add another win to his perfect record against Oxnard’s Sergio Rios (18-8, 16 KOs) in a scheduled six round bout.

Also featured on the evening’s card will be two of Puerto Rico’s most exciting fighters, the Velasquez twins. Carlos Velasquez (7-0, 6 KOs) will be featured in a six round featherweight bout against Blythe, California’s David Vazquez (17-12-3, 10 KOs) while his twin brother, featherweight Juan Velasquez (8-0, 4 KOs), will see action in a six round battle against Edison Morillo (12-5-2, 1 KO) of La Vega, Dominican Republic.

Rounding out the night’s fights will be a four round heavyweight bout featuring former Michigan State Football Standout Seth Mitchell (3-0-1, 2 KOs) against Henry Namauu (2-1, 1 KO) of Las Vegas and a super bantamweight six rounder pitting local favorite Kaliesha West (9-0, 1 KO) of Moreno Valley, California against Lakeside, California’s Elizabeth Cervantes (2-8, 1 KO).

Special guests for the July 23rd event will be Former Three-Time World Champion Winky Wright and current Ring Magazine World Lightweight Champion Joel Casamayor.
