Boxing: Twelve Quick Predictions for January and February

By Ted Sares: 1) Dominic Guinn, 28-5-1, over Robert Hawkins, 22-10, by UD: Hawkins has a good chin, but was iced in his last fight against Vladimir Virchis in Germany. Guinn must win to preserve his career. (12-28-07)

2) Marco Huck, 19-0, over Steve Cunningham, 20-1, by MD or SD: Home advantage favors Huck, 19-0 coming in. (12-29-07) ..

andrew golota3) Brian Minto over Byron Polley by late stoppage: Polley slower than molasses. After fighting the likes of Krasniqi, the “Beast” should feed off the plodding Polley. (12-29-07)

4) Alan Green, 25-1, by early and savage KO over Rubin Williams: Green on roll and has lethal power in either hand. Still, “Mr. Hollywood” is no slouch with a 29-2 slate. (1-4-08).

5) Glen Johnson, 46-11-2, over Mike Culbert by brutal stoppage if fight actually happens: Culbert should remain retired. Fight should not be made. (1-5-08)

6) Paul Malignaggi, 23-1, over Herman Ngoudjo, 16-1, by UD: Ngoudjo got gift decision against Randall Bailey in last fight in Montreal. (1-5-08).

7). Wladimir Sidorenko, 20-0-2, over Nobuto Ikehara in a tight one in Japan: Sidorenko is an excellent bantamweight–excellent. He gave Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym, (31-1), his only Loss. Ikehara, (27-1), has home field advantage in Osaka where strange decisions have been known to occur. (1-10-08).

8) Roy Jones Jr., 51-4, over Felix Trinidad, 42-2, by stoppage: Weight and rust are the keys here. (1-19-08).

9) Roman Karmazin, 36-2-1, over Alex Bunema, 28-5-2, by stoppage: Karmazin looked great against bomber Alejandro Garcia in last fight. (1-19-08).

10) Andrew Golota, 40-6-1-1, over Mike Mollo, 19-1, by late stoppage: Both have stopped Irishman Kevin McBride. Interesting match up with 12 year age advantage for Mollo. Win for Golata puts him right back into the mix. (1-19-08).

11) Ruslan Chagaev 23-0-1, over Matt Skelton, 21-1, in a tough one: Home advantage to Chagaev. (1-19-08).

12) Kelly Pavlik, 32-0, over Jermain Taylor, 27-1-1, by early and brutal stoppage: Hard for Taylor to recover from what happened in last fight. No trilogy possibilities here. (2-16-08).
