Alex ‘The Bull’ Ready to Charge

Werrington based heavyweight Alex ‘El Toro’ Ibbs is seeking to secure his third successive professional victory when he enters the ring again at Stoke’s Kings Hall on 17th November. Ibbs will turn out against Pudsey’s Lee Mountford who hasn’t registered a victory since September 2005; Mountford’s tally reads W 4 L 15 D 3..

Ibbs who started his pro career under the tutelage former World champion Richie Woodhall in Birmingham now trains at the Impact Boxing gym in Stoke.

“It was a fantastic experience to work with Richie and I learned an awful lot from him,” said Ibbs “but I feel that the move to Impact’s gym is benefiting me greatly. It’s obviously saving me a lot of travelling time which means I am fresher when I train but the standard of training that I’m getting in Stoke is as good as I’d get anywhere.”

“I’m still very new to the sport; I only had a couple of amateur bouts and this will only be my third pro fight so I know that I’ve still got a lot to learn. I’m gaining experience at the moment and although Lee’s record doesn’t look that impressive he has a lot more experience that me and he’s won more fights than I’ve had.”

“Because of his experience I expect that Lee won’t let me have it all my own way and because I’m a novice he’ll no doubt fancy his chances; people should expect to see a bit of a battle in that case.”

“I’ve already declared my intention to go all the way in boxing but if I’m going to be taken seriously I’ve got to get past opponents like Lee at this stage of my career. I’ll be going out to win on Saturday and I intend to win in style; If everything goes to plan this won’t go the distance and it will be me who’s still on his feet.”

Fellow Werrington boxer, Scott Lawton faces Leonard Lothian on the same bill. Exciting Tunstall based prospect Jimmy Doherty will be seeking his seventh successive win and Birches Head welterweight Scott Miller makes his debut. The highly-rated Chester duo of Kevin Buckley and Chris Goodwin complete the six fight card.
