Camp Notes: Marquez/Juarez, Guerrero/Honorio

MEXICO CITY — Juan Manuel Marquez is in the final stages of training camp for his bout against 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Ricardo Rocky Juarez for the WBC World Super Featherweight Title on Saturday, November 3rd at the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona. Marquez is training at the Romanza Gym in Mexico City under the watchful eye of his long-time trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain. He has trained hard and is ready for the upcoming bout, which was originally scheduled for September 15th in Las Vegas, Nevada..

The two-division world champion found a new motivation to fight after an injury to his right hand forced him to take some time off from boxing and postpone the fight with Juarez. Now, his hand has healed and he is fully prepared for the highly anticipated match up.

“Juan Manuel has recovered from the injury he suffered during training camp and he is ready for his fight against Juarez,” said Jaime Quintana, the 130-pound champion’s co-promoter and President of Romanza Productions, from the boxer’s camp in Mexico City. “Juan Manuel is completely focused on his fight against Juarez and I’m confident that he will win based on his skills and experience.”

Marquez (47-3-1, 35 KO’s) of Mexico City, captured his second world championship and launched himself back into the upper reaches of the pound-for-pound list with a thrilling victory over the legendary Marco Antonio Barrera on March 17, 2007.

Marquez, one of the best technicians of this era, is also known for a warrior heart, which led him to get off the canvas three times in the first round and battle to a 12-round draw against Manny Pacquiao in a war which was a candidate for Fight of the Year in 2004.

Marquez weighed 130.9 pounds at the WBC mandated 30-day weigh-in on October 4th. Another official pre-fight weigh-in will be held seven days before the fight on October 27th at the Romanza Gym.
