Former British Featherweight Champion Andy Morris is out for revenge when he meets John Simpson on Frank Warren’s big DebRA charity dinner show at the Grosvenor House on Friday 7th September. This will be the third meeting between the two 9st warriors. Morris beat the tough Scotsman on points in November 2005 to win the Vacant British title and then last December in London, Simpson stopped the Mancunian in the fifth round on a cut to take the title..
Simpson went on to challenge Derry Matthews for the WBU World Featherweight title in March and lost on points but made a successful defence of his British title against Ryan Barrett.
Wythenshawe Warrior Morris stopped tough Sheffield warhorse Daniel Thorpe in Cardiff on the Enzo Maccarinelli-Wayne Braithwaite undercard to get back to winning ways.
Morris said, “I can’t wait to get in the ring and face Simpson again and end this once and for all. It’s one apiece and we’ve got unfinished business to settle and it will be done on the night – all in the name of charity of course. Myself and many other knowledgeable ringside observers believe that the referee John Keane stopped the fight too early because of the cut. It wasn’t a deep cut and it was in the top left corner of my eye so the blood wasn’t going in and affecting my vision and I was ahead on all the judges scorecards as well. Anyway, what’s happened has happened, I’m now looking forward to September 7 and showing just what I would have done to him had the fight continued. Simpson had better at his best because I’m going to a real number on him this time.”
The undercard features hard-hitting unbeaten welterweight talent Denton Vassell in a four round contest plus undefeated Welsh light-welterweight prospect Barrie Jones in a six-rounder.
This will be the first show televised by Setanta Sports under it’s new multi-fight agreement with Sports Network.
The money raised from the DebRA show – the third show Sports Network have promoted in association with the charity – will help promote research into the cause, nature, treatment and cure of the skin genetic disorder Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) to raise the initial funding to develop the worlds first clinical research centre for EB at The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.
