25.01.07 – Legendary boxing promoter Don King has been a big presence in boxing for years – but now a second Don half his size is planning global domination. And now he’s set to dazzle once more as he steps through the ropes on February 17 at Wembley Arena on the undercard of Audley Harrison’s EU heavyweight title challenge against Michael Sprott, which will be screened live on ITV1.
“Don King is obviously a bit of a boxing legend, but this Don plans to be just as big a name,” said Broadhurst.
“There’s not too many flyweights in the UK or even Europe, but I look on that as a positive because it means I’ll be mixing with the very best in the world before too long.”
“Latin Americans have traditionally dominated the division, and I’m more than happy to go on the road once I’ve cleaned up domestically.”
“It was such an honour to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, but to be honest it was just the start. I want to be a world champion and I know I’ve got what it takes to do it.”
“There’s nowhere I like being better than the boxing ring, and I can’t wait to step through the ropes on February 17.”
“And although I need to stand on a stool to look Audley Harrison in the eye, I’ll be watching his fight with Michael Sprott because I believe I can learn from every boxer, big or small.”
Broadhurst takes on an opponent to be announced on February 17, but isn’t worried who he faces.
“To be honest the only person I worry about when I get into the ring is me,” said Broadhurst.
“I don’t think that there’s too many people out there who have the ability to beat me over four rounds.”
And the 23-year-old is in for a busy few months, as he is also due to fight in Cardiff on April 7 on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe’s record 20th WBO World Super-Middlweight title defence against Peter Manfredo Jnr at the magnificent Millennium Stadium.
