Ray Mercer Returns To The Ring On December 16th

30.11.06 – Westerville, OH – Former Heavyweight Champion of the World Ray Mercer will make his return to the ring on December 16, 2006 in Charleston, South Carolina as part of the Support The Troops-Legends of Boxing Tour presented by WENPPV. Mercer will take on seasoned veteran Louis Monaco, who has traded punches with former Heavyweight Champions Trevor Berbick, Michael Dokes, and James Buster Douglas throughout his career.

The event will be broadcast on a pay per view basis by Wireless Events Network, and will offer a special opportunity for troops and families to exchange live messages throughout the fight card.

About “Merciless” Ray Mercer: Ray Mercer, 34-6-1 with 25 knockouts, is a former Army Sergeant that captured Olympic gold in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Mercer won his first sixteen bouts before knocking out Francesco Damiani to capture the WBO heavyweight title on January 11, 1991. In his next bout he destroyed the popular Tommy Morrison in four rounds in a much-anticipated bout. Mercer is known for his toughness as his defeats have come to world champions Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Wladimir Klitschko and Shannon Briggs. The native of Union, NJ has won four of his last six fights, with his only two losses coming to current Heavyweight Champions Klitschko and Briggs. Mercer looks to continue his clime back up the heavyweight contender latter on December 16, stepping into the ring against a very dangerous opponent in Louis Monaco, who has knocked out seven opponents during his career.
