Interview With Alex Perez

27.11.06 – By Matt Yanofsky: I had the pleasure to speak with former amateur star and current welterweight prospect “The Brick City Bullet” Alex Perez 6-0 5 KO’s. Perez is scheduled to fight this Saturday in Atlantic City NJ on the Cotto vs Quintana/ Margarito vs Clotty card. Perez also served as a sparring partner for top prospect Joel Julio as well as Miguel Cotto.

MY: Alex, what’s up, congrats on all the big things you have been doing. Who are you scheduled to fight this Saturday?

AP: Gary Wilson, he is from Atlanta, Georgia. He is 7-4 and in his last fight he fought 12 rounds.

MY: You are currently fighting at Welterweight. Do you feel the weight is good for you or do you plan to move up?

AP: Right now I feel real good about fighting at Welterweight. I have no trouble making weight, but if the money is there at 154 I will move up that’s definite.

MY: You have really made a name for yourself. You have being sparring partners for Miguel Cotto in his current camp and for Joel Julio in his camp for his fight with Carlos Quintana. How has sparring with such high quality opponents helped you?

AP: Being in there with those types of type quality fighters has helped me a lot with experience. It gets me ready. When I go in there, I feel if I can hang with these guys and I can beat who ever is in front of me.

MY: This will be your 6th time in 7 fights fighting in either New Jersey or New York. What has it meant to you to fight in front of your fans?

AP: It means a lot. It feels really good. A lot of people get over anxious with a big fight but I stay cool. It doesn’t matter where I fight I keep my cool but I am honored to been fighting on such big cards but I don’t feel any pressure.

MY: Alex thanks for your time. What do you have to say to your fans and the readers at BrickCityBoxing.Com?

AP: Thanks for interviewing me and stay on the lookout.
