Kevin Johnson to Battle on the Plains!

11.10.06 – Highly touted heavyweight prospect Kevin Johnson (10-0-1, 5 KOs) has been added to the already stellar lineup of fighters appearing on the Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing event at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York, on October 11. The New Jersey native will face deceivingly tough Detroiter Demetrice King in a six-round special attraction.

“In just 11 career fights, Kevin has already shown tremendous promise and we’re excited to have him on this show. In addition to all the terrific fights on the card, the fans in White Plains will now have the opportunity to watch the future heavyweight champion of the world in action as well,” said an energized DeGuardia.

In three short years as a professional, the 6’ 5”, 236-pound Johnson has already defeated two well-respected fringe contenders in Robert Wiggins and Robert Hawkins, both of whom have fought well and/or defeated several top contenders, and fought to a draw with former world #1 contender Timor Ibragimov.

“While most young heavyweights build their records up for years before facing any real opposition, Kevin Johnson has already passed several stern tests. He is the next real deal and one of Star Boxing’s future champions.”

Johnson vs. King will serve as one of the supporting bouts of an exciting night of boxing headlines by the Star Boxing debut of NBC’S “Contender” star and wildly popular middleweight boxer, Joey Gilbert (12-1, 9 KOs) who will defend his NABO Middleweight Championship against Kansas City’s Keith Sims (25-12-1, 14 KOs).

In the very special co-feature attraction, Olympic Bronze Medalist Terrence Cauthen (31-3, 8 KOs) of New Jersey will challenge fellow former US Olympian Dante Craig (17-4-1, 13 KOs) for the vacant USBA Junior Middleweight Championship in a 12-round bout.

The undercard is packed with some of the Star Boxing stables hottest contenders including the “Kosovo Kid” Elvir Muriqi (31-3, 19 KOs), who will face Moline, Illinois’ Ted Muller (19-7-2, 19 KOs) in an eight-round light heavyweight scrap.

Also scheduled for action are undefeated former Olympian Roberto Benitez (4-0, 3 KOs) and Philadelphia bantamweight Omar Carroll.

The card will also feature other exciting bouts showcasing local favorites.
