Brisson-Jones Fight New Windup

26.08.06 – Philadelphia—Junior welterweight prospect Chad Brisson, of Winnipeg, Ontario, Canada, makes his first start in 12 months when he boxes veteran Russell Stoner Jones, of Denver, CO, in the scheduled 10-round main event Friday, Sept. 29, at the New Alhambra, Swanson & Ritner Streets, next to Forman Mills, in South Philadelphia. First of seven fights at 7.30 p.m.

CN8 will televise the Brisson-Jones fight on delay (Oct. 7, 7 pm) to more than seven million homes from Maine to Maryland. The Brisson-Jones match replaces the middleweight main event featuring Elvin Ayala vs. Darnell Boone. Ayala decided to take some time off from boxing.

Brisson, 26, has won 20 out of 22 pro fights, including his last 10 in a row. He defeated world-rated Damien Fuller in his pro debut and also has beaten Chucky T in a 2005 fight televised by ESPN 2. Brisson has scored 12 K0s.

In his last fight Sept. 23, 2005, in Winnipeg, Brisson stopped Mexican veteran Pedro Garcia in five rounds. Personal issues have sidelined him since then. He’s back in Broomall, PA, working with trainer Marty Feldman.

Jones, 31, is originally from Ghana but came to the United States in 1999. He has boxed some of the best lightweights and junior welterweights around, including Lamont Pearson, Daniel Attah, Phillip N’dou and former world champs Tracy Harris Patterson and Julio Diaz.

This will be Jones’ second trip to Philadelphia. He lost an eight-round decision to world-rated Zahir Raheem on May 5, 2002, at the Big O Center in Northern Liberties. On that card, Brisson lost on points to Anthony Washington.

A pro since 1994, Jones has a 19-14 record, 14 K0s. In his last fight July 28 in Hollywood, FL, Jones was stopped in four rounds by former junior welterweight champion Randall Bailey.
