Taurus Sykes Ready for San Antonio Fight

26.02.06 – “Sometimes a win is a loss and sometimes going through trials and tribulations makes you a better man and a more competent professional” are the words of Taurus Sykes the heavyweight contender from Brooklyn referring to his disappointing loss to Samuel Peter and in anticipation of his upcoming bout with Dominic Jenkins March 3 in San Antonio, TX..

“I have had time to clear my head and assess what is truly important in life and now I am ready to re-embark upon my mission of conquering the heavyweight championship of the world and bringing the title back to Brooklyn.” Sykes went on to say.

Going into this bout Sykes is in excellent physical and mental condition and is looking forward to the task at hand in Jenkins. However, Sykes believes that in 2006 he will be having “big fights with big names”.

The upcoming fight is occurring in the Lone Star state of Texas and in the city of San Antonio and this is important for Sykes. “Texas is home to the College Football champions and San Antonio is home to the Spurs who are also a championship team and it is the spirit of the likes of Tim Duncan I seek to embody in my career as well”. Sykes stated. While the fight may be in Texas the heart of Sykes never leaves his hometown of Brooklyn, NY and he is dedicating this performance to two brave New Yorkers who have recently lost their lives in a senseless manner. Nixmary Brown was a seven year old Brooklynite who was systematically beaten, tied to chairs and starved by her abusive step-father with the full knowledge of her mother and recently passed away from a blow to the head from her step-father and at the time of her death only weighed 36 pounds. Sykes is seeking to honor her memory and bring awareness to the plight of abused children. The recent tragic death of NYPD officer Eric Hernandez who was brutally beaten by a group of thugs and then accidentally shot by a fellow officer will weigh heavy on the heart of Sykes as he heads to Texas and he is also dedicating this fight to him.
