Gilbert Venegas vs. Sergio De La Torre in Co-Main This Saturday

29.11.05 – Gilbert “Gordo” Venegas, 9-1-1 (6KO’s), now fighting out of Chicago, IL heads back to the ring this Saturday night at the Aragon Ballroom to battle Sergio De La Torre, 10-7-1 (1KO) of Escondido, California in a scheduled eight round junior welterweight bout.

The eight round battle is part of another installment of THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING
as Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions and Julio Cesar Chavez along with Miller Lite and TCF Bank present AZTECA AMERICA on Saturday, December 3rd.

The Aragon Ballroom is located at 1106 W. Lawrence near the corner of Broadway and Lawrence. Tickets, starting at $25 are available in advance by calling 312-226-5800. Doors for this special Saturday night show open at 7pm with the first bell at 8pm.

Venegas, recently signed to 8 Count Productions, is quickly making a name for himself as a hot prospect. After a four year break from the sport, Venegas took on unbeaten prospect and former amateur standout Henry Crawford at the Allstate Arena on the undercard of the HBO televised bout between Fernando Vargas and Javier Castillejo this past August. Despite scoring a draw against Crawford, Venegas impressed the early arriving crowd with his boxing skills and power. Last month on the 8 Count Productions’ LATIN FURY event at Cicero Stadium, Venegas battered veteran Steve Vincent for four rounds winning by TKO when Vincent did not come out for round 5 in a bout televised internationally on SOLO BOXEO.

De La Torre is best known for his nationally televised brawl with contender Jauquin Gallardo on December 13, 2003 in San Francisco, a back and forth war which saw both combatants having success throughout the first seven rounds before Gallardo stopped De La Torre in the eighth.

Said Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions’, “Gilbert’s a true warrior. He had been off four years and went in and fought Crawford to a draw. He’s not looking for easy fights, he’s looking to prove his mettle and move up the ladder quickly. Truly, he’s what out motto entails, “Creating Contenders”. Vincent was a tough, strong kid from St. Louis and Gilbert took it right to him. We’ve had great feedback from our fans and we’re very happy to have him back.”

The full bout line is as follows;

Ricardo Castillo vs. Hugo Vargas, ten rounds, super bantamweights
