11.08.05 – Boxing wonderkid Amir Khan takes a step up the boxing ladder when he faces experienced Coventry man Baz Carey in his second professional fight on September 10 at the Cardiff International Arena. The Olympic Silver Medallist made a big impact in his pro debut last month with 109-demolition job over Londoner David Bailey but could be in for a tougher test against Carey who is not in awe of the hard-hitting teenager..
Khan features in a four-round lightweight contest on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe’s 17th WBO World Super-Middleweight title defence to be televised live on ITV1.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming Khan to the pros,” said the former British Masters Super-Featherweight title challenger.
He continued, “This is my big chance to gatecrash onto the scene live on ITV and what could be better than having a W on your fight record with Amir Khan’s name next to it?”
“Khan’s a really good prospect but he’s bitten off more than he can chew against me. I’m a grown man and he’s still a kid. He’s got fast hands but I’m very strong and have 25 fights under my belt. I will show him what the pro’s are really about,”
“The occasion won’t get to me because I’ve got the experience of boxing in front of big crowds at the M.E.N and Braehead Arena’s on the undercard of Ricky Hatton and Scott Harrison so facing Khan on Joe Calzaghe’s card at the C.I.A will be just another job,”
Carey finished by saying, “Khan wasn’t tested in his first fight because it was over so quick. Fair play to him he did a good job on Bailey but I will definitely give him a tougher test.”
