01.04.05 – By Tony Nobbs: Team Fenech’s Cameroon Sydney Olympic rep Sakio ‘Scorpion’ Bika scored an impressive and relatively one sided stoppage at the 2 min 35 mark of round six over gutsy Australian Super Middleweight champion Juarne ‘Dynamite Kid’ Dowling in a non title ten rounder on a Jeff Fenech Foxsport fight night at the Penrith Panthers Club on Friday.. Dowling, last in action against Anthony Mundine (L TKO3) on October 13, rarely takes a backward step and the straight punching of the taller Bika allowed him to control the action. Dowling, however, did land some clean shots of his own, but the longer the fight went, the more convincing Bika won the rounds.
In the sixth, Dowling was given a standing eight count by ref Brian MCMahon and with the NZ born former Queenslander in trouble moments later Mc Mahon called a halt.
Dowling, now training in Melbourne under Keith Ellis, suffered cuts over both eyes.
Because both Bika, the OPBF Middleweight titlist and Dowling weighed in over the Super Middle limit, the domestic belt was not on the line.
Manchester Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Daniel Geale, formerly of Tasmania but now fighting out of Team Fenech and living in Redfern, Sydney, showed why he regarded by many as the best prospect in Oz by dominating nationally rated West Australian Dominic De Vana at middleweight and set for eight. RSC with 52 seconds left in round one. De Vana was dropped by a crisp right a minute into the round and given another count before the fight ended. A fine display of precision punching by Geale.
A loaded up overhand missile from out wide gave shock punching Filipino Renae Ganoy a devastaing five round knockout victory over Australian lightweight champion Allan Luxford in a scheduled six round lt welterweight war.
Ganoy looked to have won all four rounds in a free for all, with both boxers landing flush. Luxford appeared unable or unwilling to follow the advice of trainer Angelo Hyder and paid the price. Ganoy, now based in Sydney also has a five round knockout over recently crowned Aussie 10 stone champ Mick Shaw and is a welcome addition to the local scene. Shaw, who beat Luxford in an eight rounder, has expressed he is ready to a rematch with Renae.
Promising Adam Vella stopped Damien Jaimes in round five of a six at middleweight
Greg Foley outpointed Brad Ryan over six rounds also at middleweight.
Billy Hussein trained featherweight Mohommad Elomar won a four round UD over southpaw Rey Martizano from The Phillipenes. This was action packed from the get go with the import doing extremely well in rounds two and three before Elomar came back to edge a close forth with the help of a standing eight in he closing seconds.
In the opening bout, nice boxing Paul Wahlberg, a Canadian now with Team Fenech outpointed defensive Shedy Souied from the Ellis stable in Melbourne over six at lt welter.
