26.02.05 – From WBC President Jose Sulaiman: “The WBC is fully involved in a reorganization process which will include as executives boxing commissioners and boxing lovers from all over the world who would like to participate in the many programs that are being planned for the betterment of boxing. There will be a meeting of the Board of Governors in the United States during the month of May where every single step of that organization process will be reviewed and approved.. Many, many great boxing people from a number of different countries around the world have already come into the program.

“The WBC is organizing a great boxing evening called ˜The Night of Champions” which is scheduled to be held on the last Tuesday of May in Nevada. Most, if not all, of the WBC world champions are expected to attend, as well as many of the former WBC boxing heroes.

“The work of the WBC doctors in Phuket, Thailand, has been very, very good, and has received an important recognition from the people of Thailand. Several doctors have been involved in a program for the identification of bodies, because there are still many that can not be identified. The boxing community affiliated with the WBC in Thailand have been strongly participating in benevolent promotions for the benefit of those that have suffered serious consequences because of the tsunami.

“The WBC is highly appreciative of the donations to the tsunami relief fund from the promotion of the fight between the great champion of the middleweights, Bernard Hopkins, and his valiant and determined WBC official challenger Howard Eastman. Oscar De La Hoya, the promoter of the event, and Hopkins made personal donations to the fund, as well.

“The WBC’s 43rd world convention will be held in Spain during the first two weeks of October, with the dates still to be announced.”
