LaMontagne Warns Maccarinelli

07.01.05 – “Watch out, this pretty boy can fight” is the warning WBU World Cruiserweight title challenger Rich LaMontagne has sent to champion Enzo Maccarinelli ahead of their fight at the Bridgend Leisure Centre on Friday 21 January. LaMontagne, who has modelled for major fashion labels Calvin Klein, Versace and Hugo Boss and had a bit-part in the Robert DeNiro movie Flawless, reckons that the dynamite-punching Welshman is taking victory for granted because the American is more concerned with his looks than getting hit..

“Nothing could be further from the truth,” stormed LaMontagne.

“I would rather he think that I’m a pretty boy who can’t fight because it will be a big shock to him on the night when he finds himself in the fight-of-his-life to keep hold of his title and facial features,”

“I might have the looks but modelling is something I do on the side to get extra money and boxing has always come first with me,”

“Basically, I’m a street kid who hit it luck with the modelling. I was always in street fights when I was younger – a lot worse than what I have come across in the professional ring,”

“Since I started boxing it’s been my ambition to win a world title and I can’t wait to fight Maccarinelli,”

Known as The Mountain, LaMontagne, from Everett in Massachusetts, has won 24 of 29 wins by knockout with 16 of them inside three rounds and has held the USBF Cruiserweight crown.

An explosive fight is expected with Big Mac who is a massive puncher himself with 14 knockouts in 20 fights but this does not worry LaMontagne.

“I’ve not seen anything of Maccarinelli that will make me lose any sleep. He’s just a big, stand up kid who comes straight ahead with his chin out in the air,” He added.

“I will still be able to go home and get work modelling because I can assure you that no one has re-arranged my features and Maccarinelli isn’t going to be the first,”

He finished by saying, “Maccarinelli won’t need any trainers or seconds working in his corner he’ll need my make-up girl to work on him after I finished with him.”
