28.07.04 – This week is fight week, and two exciting rematches will highlight DiBella Entertainment’s fourth installment of Broadway Boxing Presented by Mohegan Sun on Friday night, July 30, Nate Campbell (24-2-1, 21 KO’s) faces Bronx native “Tiger” Martinez (20-2-1, 9 KOs) in the main event, and Aneudi “El Estudiante” Santos of Freeport, NY (11-1, 9 KO’s) squares off against Sam Reese of Hampton, Virginia in the co-feature.
Martinez, Santos, promoter Lou DiBella, and undercard fighters “Hino” Ehikhamenor and Jaidon Codrington were at today’s press conference at Gallagher’s Steak House in Manhattan.
Campbell and Martinez fought to a thrilling draw in their first encounter in May of 2003 on NBC. They are now fighting for the number two ranking in the IBF Junior Lightweight Division. Santos lost to Reese by decision this past January, and is looking to avenge his sole loss. Santos is nicknamed “El Estudiante” for his studies in both the ring and as a full-time student at Hofstra University on Long Island.
“The main event is a huge fight for both Martinez and Campbell,” said DiBella. “The winner could be fighting for a championship in his next fight.”
“Even though I am 36, you cannot count me out because of age,” said Martinez. “I still have a lot of boxing ahead of me, and the fans will see that on Friday.”
“I will be more ready than ever,” said Santos. “School’s out for the summer, so I can focus completely on boxing. Reese will see a different, more improved Santos on Friday.”
The event will be broadcast by HDNet in high definition, and on MSG Network, Fox Sports Net New England and Empire Sports Network on standard cable.
Broadway Boxing cards originate from venues in the five boroughs, the greater New York Metropolitan Tri-State area, and Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Mohegan Sun is the series site sponsor. Turner Construction, HBO Sports, and Gallagher’s Steak House are also sponsors.
The broadcast team will include: MSG’s talented Gus Johnson delivering the blow by blow; boxing authority Steve Farhood handling expert analyst duties; New York native and former Golden Gloves champion Brian Adams will be the ringside reporter and third man, while WFAN and “Imus in the Morning” personality Sid Rosenberg will serve as the ring announcer.
CompuBox will provide its customary excellence with “Punchstats” for the broadcast, including punches thrown/landed, jabs thrown/landed and power punches thrown/landed.
As part of the Broadway Boxing community relations effort, Turner Construction has sponsored a series of DBE boxing clinics at Police Athletic League locations within the five boroughs. The PAL clinics will be conducted by boxers who will be appearing on Broadway Boxing.
