LAILA ALI

“I have never fought this soon after a fight (July 17), but I like it. The good thing about having fights so close together is that I do not have to worry about getting out of shape and then having to get back into shape. So it is sort of a luxury in some ways. I could not do it for certain opponents, but this seemed like a good opportunity for me to try it. I am looking forward to fighting Friday night and putting on a good show.”

NELSON DIEPPA

“I do not know much about Ulises Solis at all, and have never watched a tape of him. But I hear he can box and move a little and is not a typical Mexican brawler. I have fought all over the world. He has fought all but one fight in Mexico. So I think I have a big advantage in that regard. This will not be an easy fight and I am not underestimating Solis, but I feel I am the best of the 108-pound world champions and would love to prove it. After Friday, I am going to call out all the other champions in my weight division. My goal is to unify the title.”
