“I’m only interested in genuine titles and I can’t wait to challenge for my first professional title.”
But it appears that the fight isn’t just about the championship.
“Danny’s been on my ‘wanted’ list ever since a purse bid for the Southern Area title fell through last year,” Meager continued.
“He talked a good game before he pulled out but that’s the past and I’m still hungry for the fight. I can’t wait to finally step in with him.
“The winner is next in line to fight for the British title, and that’s every boxer’s dream.
“Once I’ve sorted out Danny, I’ll deal with the winner of Earl vs. Murray and win the crown.”
With the fight scheduled on a Sports Network show, it appears Danny’s home advantage doesn’t bother Meager in the slightest.
“By winning the purse bid, it’s clear that Sports Network fancy his chances against me.
“He’s billed as a hot prospect but he’ll need more than home advantage when he steps through those ropes to face me,” said ‘Macho Man’ Meager.
“Having his stable mates Graham Earl and Steve Murray in the ring with him is just about the only chance I’ll give him of keeping hold of his title.”
Meager’s confidence stems from his recent wins against highly rated Charlie Shepherd and Michael Muya.
“In my opinion, both Charlie and Michael are better fighters than Danny. I brought too much to the table for them. They couldn’t handle it and nor will he.” stated Meager.
“He’s definitely coming up short here and I think he knows that.
“Come the 30th of September I’ll be bringing another belt back to Hennessy Sports.”
Promoter Mick Hennessy was equally upbeat at the news of the impending clash.
“Lee’s paid his dues as a prospect. He’s a class act; he’s ready for this challenge and I’m delighted for him, ” described Hennessy.
“He’s an exciting box-fighter who’s made for TV. I’m confident he can fight away from home and win in style.
“British boxing needs more of these type of fights to push it back where it belongs. It doesn’t come better than two prospects from rival camps fighting for a genuine title.”
