De La Hoya: Quillin’s the best middleweight in the division; he destroys everyone

quillin52Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions thinks his champion WBO middleweight belt holder Peter Quillin (29-0, 21 KO’s) is the best fighter in the 160 lb. division right now, and it appears that De La Hoya thinks WBA champion Gennady Golovkin is still unproven.

De La Hoya wants Golovkin to face Quillin’s recent victim former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, presumably in some kind of weeding out thing to get to Quillin.

De La Hoya said on his social media site “Hey Kid Chocolate how does it feel to be the best middleweight on the planet. My man Kid Chocolate will destroy any middleweight out there. I wanna see Golovkin vs. Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and then I’ll see if he’s good or not.”

Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr. isn’t afraid of Canelo

07MayweatherandCanelointerviewsIMG_3846(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) Floyd Mayweather Sr. says his son Floyd Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) has seen all there is to see of undefeated WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s0 and he’s not worried in the least about whether or not he can beat the 22-year-old fighter. Floyd Jr. absolutely knows he can beat him when they face each other in two months on September 14th.

David Price says he’ll rebuild his career; won’t retire

price455Heavyweight David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) is at the worst point of his still young career following his 5th round TKO loss to American Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) last Saturday night in Liverpool, UK.

A lot of boxing fans are wondering whether Price will hang up the gloves are not, because at this point his future prospects look pretty bleak in terms of accomplishing anything at the world level or making a lot of money. However, Price says he won’t be retiring. He’s going to be continuing and working his back from the bottom.

Haye-Fury bout will be in Manchester, says Peter Fury

fury54 (2)When trainer Peter Fury was asked if the September 28th fight between unbeaten Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) and former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) would be taking place in Manchester, England, Peter said “It will be Manchester.”

That narrows it down quite a bit. Now the only thing that awaits is for Tyson Fury to put pen on paper to make the fight a reality. It’s difficult to believe that Fury is actually going to take the fight because he’s been so selective in his fights since turning pro; turning down the likes of Deontay Wilder and Kubrat Pulev and instead facing guys like Martin Rogan and Vinny Maddalone.

Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag: Mayweather/Silva, Canelo, Matthysse vs Garcia, & Cotto/Roach!!!!

Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) Carlos H. (San Francisco, CA): On your FaceBook account you stated that Mayweather should “closely analyze” the defeat of Anderson Silva as he prepares for his bout with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Explain that statement, as I don’t agree.

Vivek W. (ESB): I think too much has been made of my response to this question. My point was that you don’t just wake up one day and receive the consensus vote as one of, if not thee best of all-time in your craft.

Haye signs contract for Fury bout

haye4543Former two division world champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) says he’s just signed the contract for a fight against the unbeaten but totally untested 6’9” Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s). Haye is now hoping and praying that Fury doesn’t duck out and choose not to sign his portion of the contract.

David Haye said on his twitter “I’ve just signed to fight Fury on Sep 28, lets hope he finally agrees (and signs today) and he doesn’t keep delaying. Word around “Camp Fire” is Fury is looking to duck me and fight Toney “The Tiger”. Lets hope they are just to rumours.”

Gosh, I hope Fury doesn’t get a case of stage fright and head in the opposite direction for some of the journeyman he’s been building his unbeaten record. I’d hate to see Fury ending up turning down fights against Haye and Kubrat Pulev and then going back to the journeyman circuit to continue to pump up his inflated resume.

Strategy for Mayweather against Canelo

Mayweather Signing as his motorcade drives away(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) When Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather – pure boxer and greatest fighter of his era gets in the ring against Canelo Alvarez on September 14, 2013, several things need to happen for him to end the night undefeated.

As an older fighter, older people in-general don’t just let things happen like children or younger adults do. These youngsters don’t have experience to get in their way so they just let things happen and respond accordingly in an unencumbered way.

Sturm thinks he’ll get rematch with Geale by end of the year

sturm676Former WBA/WBO middleweight champion Felix Sturm (38-3-2, 17 KO’s) thinks he’s one fight away from getting a rematch against IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale later on this year. Sturm, 34, easily defeated #4 IBF, Predrag Radosevic (27-1, 9 KO’s) last Saturday night by a 4th round TKO at the Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

Sturm knocked Radosevic down three times with body shots in the fight. The fight, if you want to call it that, was stopped in the 4th round after Sturm knocked Radosevic twice in the round.

Cotto to be trained by Freddie Roach for Oct 5th comeback; Delvin Rodriguez likely opponent

cotto03Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO’s) will be trained by Freddie Roach when he returns to the ring in a comeback on October 5th. According to ESPN, Delvin Rodriguez is the possible opponent for the 32-year-old Cotto, and HBO will be televising it.

Cotto vs. Rodriguez isn’t exactly an HBO type of main event fight, but hopefully the fight will be packaged with a good undercard, because as it is the fight is a mismatch. Rodriguez has already been beaten by Austin Trout, Ashley Theophane, Rafal Jackiewicz, Jesse Feliciano, Andre Eason, and Isaac Hlatshwayo.
