Vitali: The Haye fight isn’t interesting to me

vitali234 WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (45-2, 41 KO’s) says a future fight isn’t an appealing one to him, and it’s not one that’s high on his immediate agenda. Vitali plans on continuing his career, but his main plan is to defend against his top challenger rather than giving Haye a shot at the title.

Vitali’s rationale is he gave Haye the opportunity to fight him last September when Vitali offered him a fight in Moscow, Russia. Haye said no to fight, so Vitali says he moved on and isn’t thinking about Haye anymore.

If Haye wants the fight with Vitali, he’s going to have to wait a long time and put himself in position for the fight by getting ranked high by the World Boxing Council. Haye is currently ranked #5 by the WBC.

Love them or hate them the Klitschko’s demand respect. With the rumours surrounding Vitali’s inevitable exit to pursue his political ambitions in the Ukraine let’s forget the critics and examine why they have ruled the Heavyweight division so consistently since Lewis’s retirement. Comparisons will inevitably be made at how these two brothers would fare in a different heavyweight era, but the fact of the matter remains these guys remain at the top of their game for a reason, or rather reasons.

Despite the obvious physical attributes the Klitschkos bring to the ring, what really sets them apart from other contenders is there in fight intelligence and to a greater degree there out of ring intelligence. First of all let’s take a brief look at their fight strategies. It’s been well documented by many commentators and observers that the Klitschkos like to stay behind that ram rod like jab. They are comfortable at range, they have control and can dictate the pace.

Robert Guerrero turns 30 today; getting ready for Mayweather

(Photo credit: Casino/Showtime) Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) turned 30-years-old today, March 27th. Guerrero has been spending a lot of time meeting with different media personalities in the past couple of weeks as he’s getting ready for his May 4th fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s).

Guerrero was on Good Morning America, ESPN, and most recently meeting with Sean Hannity from Fox News. Guerrero seems to be really milking the opportunity to make a name for himself outside of the ring.

It’s hard to remember a fighter doing as much meeting with the media than what Guerrero is doing now. He seems to live for this. It’s too bad that this can’t go on forever because this is something he’s good at. The problem is he’s going to have to perform in the ring on May 4th, and I just don’t think it’s possible for him to pull off the upset over Mayweather.

Price-Thompson II on 7/6 in Liverpool, England

price46 Heavyweights Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) and David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) will be doing it again in four months for a rematch on July 6th at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Price and his promoter Frank Maloney didn’t walk away from Price’s February 23rd 2nd round TKO loss to the 41-year-old Thompson without trying to avenge the defeat and show that it was just a fluke thing and not a true indication of how strong Price’s chin is.

Price and Maloney blame the loss on Thompson landing a shot to the side of Price’s head in an area that he’s not used to getting hit. The punch, a fight hand, dropped Price to the canvas, and he was too hurt to continue fighting despite getting back to his feet.

David Haye to announce comeback on Thursday in London press conference

Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) will be holding a London press conference this Thursday at which time he’s expected to announce his comeback, and his two-fight plan to get himself locked in as the mandatory challenger for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

The 32-year-old Haye, who hasn’t fought since last July in beating 2nd tier heavyweight Dereck Chisora by a 5th round TKO, has given up trying to talk WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko into fighting him. Haye now wants to force the issue on his brother Wladimir by fighting two quick fights against top tier opposition to get himself locked in as Wladimir’s mandatory while at the same time putting him in a better spot to get more money than he would if it were to be an optional title defense.

Canelo: I hope Guerrero beats Mayweather

WBC 154 lb. champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is pulling for WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) to cause a big upset on May 4th by beating undefeated WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo said to esnewsreportingcom: “Anything can happen in boxing, but I hope Guerrero wins.”

It’s interesting that Canelo is hoping that Guerrero gets the victory because this would be something that would hurt Canelo by having Mayweather’s unbeaten record taken away by somebody else. That undefeated record is obviously something that helps bring huge money to Mayweather with fan interest.

Rios-Alvarado on HBO this Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada

Brandon Rios and Mike Avarado will be going to war on Saturday night in a fight for the interim WBO light welterweight title on HBO at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner of the Rios vs. Alvarado fight will be in line to eventually challenge for the WBO full 140 pound title, which is held at this time by WBO champion Juan Manuel Marquez.

For Rios, it’s important that he defeat Alvarado once again in order to get a big money fight against Manny Pacquiao. Rios was supposed to be fighting Pacquiao already, but the plans were changed when Pacquiao was destroyed by Marquez in a 6th round knockout last December. Pacquiao now could end up facing Marquez, the winner of the Alvarado-Rios fight or Tim Bradley in September.

Breidis Prescott vs. Terence Crawford this Saturday, March 30th in Las Vegas

29-year-old light welterweight Breidis Prescott (29-4, 20 KO’s) will be facing unbeaten lightweight fringe contender Terence Crawford (19-0, 15 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Brandon Rios vs. Mike Alvarado bout on HBO at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Prescott was supposed to be facing WBA light welterweight champion Khabib Allakhverdiev (18-0, 8 KO’s), but he suffered an injury and had to drop out of the card. The Prescott-Crawford fight will be the co-feature on the card.

Tony Bellew vs. Isaac Chilemba this Saturday, March 30th in Liverpool, UK

WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1, 12 KO’s) will be taking on a tough opponent in #3 WBC Isaac Chilemba (20-1-1, 9 KO’s) in defending his title at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Bellew, 30, needs to win this fight to keep his #1 WBC ranking and to stay in line to challenge for the title against the winner of the June 8th fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson and Adonis Stevenson.

Chilemba, 25, has got a great chin, and he’s five years younger than Bellew. He’s also around the same height at 6’1”. Bellew has grown accustomed to being the bigger guy in the ring, but he’s not going to have that advantage on Saturday night.

Trout: Canelo hasn’t developed his man strength yet; I’m taking his belt

WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) doesn’t believe that the 22-year-old WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) has developed his full power as of yet, and still isn’t strong enough to defeat him when the two meet up on Showtime on April 20th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Trout said to Fightnews.com “I don’t think he [Canelo] has developed his man strength yet. I will impose my will on him…I took the belt from his older brother [Rigoberto Alvarez], and I am going to take his, too.”
