David G. (Albany, NY): How do you rate Danny Garcia overall at this stage in his career?

Vivek W. (B247): I think the career of Danny Garcia leaves room for both, great praise, and great criticism. More often than not, I’ve been openly critical of him, for the simple fact that I think his stock has dropped tremendously after the Matthysse bout due to uneven performances and poor choice of opponents. That said, I think he’s right on par for where he needs to be at this stage in his career. On 32 nights spanning 9 years, he has faced a variety of opposition and found a way to win, even if some weren’t as pretty as most would like.

Ruben Guerrero: All Danny Garcia did was run and hold all night

Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) did what many boxing fans expected him to do by opting to use a lot of clinching and moving to defeat Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) in their fight last night for the vacant WBC welterweight title. Guerrero’s trainer Ruben Guerrero feels that Garcia did little more than run and hold all night long rather than fighting. Further, Ruben didn’t like how the referee was constantly breaking the action when Guerrero was trying to fight on the inside against Garcia.

Garcia previously did a lot of clinching and moving in his fight against Lucas Matthysse in 2013 to grind out a 12 round decision win. That’s why it wasn’t surprising to see Garcia go back to the same plan to use it for Guerrero, because there was no way that Garcia was going to be able to win the fight by brawling.

Mayweather scored Danny Garcia – Robert Guerrero a draw

Superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. didn’t think enough of Danny Garcia’s performance against Robert Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) to give him any more than a 12 round draw last Saturday night in his world title at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Fortunately, for Garcia, Mayweather was not one of the judges for the fight. The judges gave Garcia the win by the scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112. That comes out to an eight rounds to four score.

Mayweather thinks Garcia was loading up too much and not using his boxing skills the way that he needed to. The fans didn’t like the holding and movement that Garcia was using throughout the fight. While Garcia had talked about wanting to make it an entertaining fight for the fans, he gave the opposite type of performance in the fight by choosing to hold and run most of the fight.

Guerrero wants rematch, Garcia says no

Robert Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) fought well enough to deserve a draw last Saturday night in his fight against Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs), but the judges saw it differently in giving the 27-year-old Garcia a 12 round unanimous decision at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The judges scored it 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112.

Guerrero was upset about the decision afterwards and said he wants a rematch, because even Floyd Mayweather Jr. said that the fight should have been scored a draw. However, Garcia and his dad Angel Garcia are saying no to a rematch. They want to move on to bigger fights. Just what those bigger fights are is unclear, because they don’t want to fight Amir Khan.

Khan: It’s payback time for Danny Garcia

With his #1 ranking with the WBC, Amir Khan is on the verge of finally getting one of the fights he wants in him getting a potential crack at the new WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) in his next fight if he wants it. Khan says he definitely wants to face the 27-year-old Garcia so that he can avenge his loss from 2012, and pick up the WBC 147lb title that was recently stripped from Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Last night, Garcia won a close 12 round unanimous decision victory over Robert Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Garcia decisions Guerrero to win WBC 147lb title

Before a crowd of 12,052 at STAPLES Center in downtown Los Angeles, Danny “Swift” Garcia, (32-0, 18 KOs) of Philadelphia won a unanimous 12-round decision over Gilroy, Calif.’s Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, (33-4, 18 KOs). Scores were 116-112 on all three judges’ scorecard.

Fighting for the vacant WBC Welterweight World Title in the first Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FOX event, Guerrero came out aggressively in the first four rounds using a solid jab and strong over hand left hands to control the action.

The fight was there to be won for the 32-year-old Guerrero, but he didn’t do enough in the final six rounds to get the win. The judges scored the fight by the identical scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112.

Rob “Bravo” Brant Wins Big but St. Paul Loses Out

Just when a fighter from St. Paul, MN experiences some success on TV, the audience is told he is from Dallas, TX (where he currently trains). Flyover land can’t win, but at least Rob can, and impressively. Going into the main event Friday night at the Casino Del Sol, Tucson, AZ, Rob was the favorite, but few expected him to win by a knockout.

Brant was described as more of a boxer with a good jab. He was favored because he had more experience. In the amateurs, he was a national champ (multiple x’s), and is undefeated as a pro (19-0-0 12KO), Still, Decarlo “3mendo” Perez (15-4-1 5KO) was expected to be one of Rob toughest tests, because he performed well against tougher competition.

Parker methodically beats down Bergman in Eight

Apia, Samoa, Faleata Sports Complex. As expected Joseph Parker improved to 18(16)-0 with a methodical beat down of human punching bag Jason Bergman 25(16)-12-2 in the eighth round of their scheduled twelve round fight.

Before a boisterous hometown crowd in Apia, Parker came out pawing his trademark jab looking to set up a big right hand, before settling into his work from the second which was punctuated with a knock down to Bergman from a thudding left hand.
