Welterweight star “Showtime” Shawn Porter opened up his training camp to media Thursday at Porter Hy-Performance Center in Las Vegas as he prepares for his primetime showdown with welterweight world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman on Saturday, March 12 on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS presented by Premier Boxing Champions(PBC) from Mohegan Sun Resort in Connecticut.

Televised action begins at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT with an all-action showdown between former multiple division world champions Abner Mares and Fernando Montiel.

Miguel Cotto to return on June 18th, opponent TBA

Puerto Rican legend Miguel Cotto, last seen losing his middleweight championship to the younger and bigger Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, is ready to return to action. According to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, Cotto has a date: June 18th being pencilled in for his next fight, but he has yet to officially name his opponent.

Cotto, who will likely fight once again in New York, has been in talks with fellow future Hall of Famer, Juan Manuel Marquez, and could still face the Mexican great. However, another rumour floating around on a few web sites says it is possible Cotto, 40-5(33) could face thrill-a-minute slugger Ruslan Provodnikov next.

Thurman vs. Porter: Does Demand Exceed Supply?

Well folks, we finally have it. Keith “One Time” Thurman will battle “Showtime” Shawn Porter, March 12 on CBS. On the line will be Thurman’s World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title. Both fighters want to stake their claim as the top dog in the 147-pound division.

Fans and media alike look to this fight as a big boon for the sport of boxing, with most listing it as the most important fight in Premier Boxing Champions’ (PBC’s) short history. It seems that way, even though it’s being marketed as a Showtime on CBS type of deal. If such is the case, then I have a few reservations about this major showdown.

Lebedev vs Ramirez cruiserweight unification in the works for April 30th

According to Dan Rafael, a cruiserweight unification clash that will contest the WBA and IBF titles could be heading to Russia – or maybe the U.S – on April 30th. Promoter Andrey Ryabinsky says Dennis Lebedev and Victor Emelio Ramirez have a deal in place to fight at the end of April.

Ryabinsky wants to stage the fight in America, yet he does not thus far have a TV deal to show the fight in the U.S. If he cannot negotiate a TV deal, ESPN.com reports, the fight will go ahead in Russia; either Moscow or Sochi. Either way, Lebedev-Ramirez is a good fight.
