Adonis Stevenson: Dawson will go into a panic once I tag him

stevensontAdonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) may be moving up a class tonight in taking on WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) in a crucial fight in his career, but he’s not worried at all about being out of his league in this fight.

The 35-year-old Stevenson expects to be able to knock the 6’1” Dawson out just like he’s been doing with his opponents from the super middleweight. Stevenson doesn’t see any difference. He believes he’ll hurt Dawson just like hurt guys from the 168 lb. division.

Weigh-In Photo Gallery: Maidana-Lopez, Angulo-Lara, Charlo-Hopkins

_DSC2284Ladies and gentlemen…it’s Showtime!

The historic Placita Olvera in downtown Los Angeles, CA was host to the anticipated Welterweight showdown between hard-punching Marcos Maidana and tough-as-nails Josesito Lopez this Saturday night 06/08/2013.

The Showtime Championship Boxing series is scheduled to deliver yet again another stacked fight card in the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Given their past fights and performances, the main event easily promises to deliver fireworks.

The co-main event fight between Alfredo Angulo and Erislandy Lara is another matchup that generates intrigue. Can “El Perro” Angulo find a way to use his punching power, along with the new skills acquired with a new trainer, to stop the slick Erislandy Lara? Or…will Erislandy Lara just be too slick, too quick for Angulo and deliver a boxing clinic?

Michael Zerafa Scrapes Past Rey Anton Olarte to Claim 2013 Bob Rose Cup

Undefeated light middleweight Michael “Pretty Boy” Zerafa (11-0, 5 KOs) suffered a major scare en route to defeating Rey Anton Olarte (17-23-8, 4 KOs) via unanimous decision last night to capture the 2013 Bob Rose Cup at the Malvern Town Hall, Melbourne, Australia.

In the biggest test of his career to date, Zerafa suffered a devastating knockdown in round three to Sydneysider Olarte, which had Zerafa on wobbly legs and lucky to survive the count. Olarte’s southpaw style and awkward angles caused great difficulty for Zerafa in the early rounds, but the knockdown seemed to spur him into action where he rebounded strongly across the middle rounds.

Marcos Maidana vs. Josesito Lopez: By any means necessary

68From the opening bell in this highly anticipated matchup between Josesito Lopez and Marcos Maidana one thing will be clear, both fighters will dig deep for a victory and have a win by any means necessary attitude. In what is yet another main event being billed as a possible fight of the year for 2013, a boxing year that has exploded from March to May it’s hard not to assume that this fight will live up to the lofty expectations placed on it by hardcore fans. These fighters managed to pull off upsets versus Victor Oritz, making him quit without a 10 count. The winner puts himself in great position to land a title fight at welterweight. Style and the mentalities of these fighters should make for an instant classic, something the Home Depot Center (now named StubHub) has become accustom to in recent years.

Golden Boy has been burnt twice by these guys in their quest to turn a popular young prospect into a full fledge star. In case you haven’t been paying attention I will break it down iller, see Oscar De La Hoya was a businessman and “El Chino” was the killer(note: 50 cent song explains that sentence). Although most people were calling him Madonna leading up the fight, Maidana went down early and often but returned the favor shocking the pro Ortiz crowd that night in June 2009 at the Staples Center.

De La Hoya doesn’t see Mayweather as having changed from 2007

mayweather3423Oscar De La Hoya thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the same fighter now that he was when they fought in 2007. De La Hoya believes Mayweather is still essentially as good as he was back then, but the difference now is he’s fighting who De La Hoya feels is a better fighter than himself in Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 14th.

De La Hoya doesn’t know how Mayweather will deal with someone hitting him with six-punch combinations with the kind of power that Canelo throws his punches with.

De La Hoya said to RingTV “When I fought him in 2007, he might be the same Floyd. Fresh, better shape, young, strong, I don’t see any difference. I still see the same movement.”
