Slightly older British fight fans will remember “The Big Fight Live.” Back in the day, in the 1980s and ’90s, with the great Reg Gutteridge doing the commentary, the show, going out on terrestrial channel ITV, was THE place to watch the big fights. Now, according to an interesting piece on the ITV website, the boxing show will return to TV screens next year – on pay-per-view.

The UK now has more reigning world champions than any other country in the world!
Amazingly, and proof positive that boxing is flourishing on these shores, the UK can now boast more reigning world champion boxers than any other country in the world. With 13 world rulers – from heavyweight all the way down to super-flyweight – the UK currently has more champs than America (12) and Mexico (8).

Praise continues to come in, justifiable praise at that, for the quite incredible twelve-round slugfest British heavyweights Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora gave us on Saturday night in Manchester. Promoter Eddie Hearn called the give and take, two-way barnburner one of the best heavyweight fights he has ever seen. And this was not mere hyperbole intended to sell tickets – the fight is in the history books now.
However, there could be a part-two – providing the two rivals who knocked lumps out of each other for the full 36 minutes of blistering action have the energy and the desire to go through such hell again – as victor Whyte said yesterday.
Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko is on for April, but will this fight deliver?
While IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua had an easy time of it in despatching challenger Eric Molina last night, fight fans are finding it harder and harder to shell out good money to see the 18-0(18) star bowl over opponents, one after the other, in easy, even scripted-looking “fights.”
Everyone agrees that AJ is badly in need of a test, but will this test come in his next fight – officially announced in the ring in Manchester last night, for April 29 against former king Wladimir Klitschko – or will the planned Wembley event prove to be yet another disappointment? Previous Joshua foes such as Kevin Johnson, Dillian Whyte, Charles Martin and Molina promised so much going in but, Whyte aside, they all flopped on fight night.
Results: Anthony Joshua slaughters Molina
Anthony Joshua extended his perfect record to 18-0 with 18 knockouts in a dominating defense of his IBF Heavyweight World Championship over American challenger Eric Molina Saturday on SHOWTIME from Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
Joshua floored Molina with a huge left in the third, leaving the Texas native crumpled in the corner. Molina looked dazed and barely beat the count, but he was again in trouble and defenseless seconds later, forcing the referee to halt the contest at 2:02.
Anthony Joshua says he will retire in five years, “provided everything goes to plan”
Although he has had just 17 pro fights – fight number 18 comes this Saturday night against challenger Eric Molina – Anthony Joshua is already speaking about when he plans to call it a day and retire. The reigning IBF heavyweight champ, speaking with The Mirror, says that if things go to plan he will retired in five years at the age of 32.
Joshua says he could retire today if he wanted to, as he is happy. Yet right now, the 27 year old is enjoying boxing and he wants to leave behind a legacy.
Chisora vs Whyte fight on as scheduled but no title at stake; Weigh-In Results
Due to the craziness displayed by Dereck Chisora earlier this week, when the heavyweight threw a table at his bitter rival Dillian Whyte, the BBB of C came close to calling tomorrow’s fight off. Instead, Chisora has been fined the sum of £25,000 and tomorrow’s clash will not contest the British title as was initially the case.

Today at the final press conference to promote this Saturday’s Dereck Chisora-Dillian Whyte clash for the British heavyweight crown, things got well and truly nasty. Chisoa, angered at an apparent “death threat” hurled at him from his bitter rival (no, seriously, fight fans, in this day and age of pre-fight shenanigans, some staged, others not, this particular feud is as REAL as it gets) suddenly picked up a portion of the head table and threw it at Whyte; with it just missing promoter Eddie Hearn’s head.
David Haye says he’d have “fun” against “robotic” Anthony Joshua, predicts KO win inside three rounds
While a good number of fight fans may well agree with David Haye’s prediction that he will “demolish” Tony Bellew when they meet in their heavily hyped fight next March, these same fans may raise an eyebrow at the former WBA heavyweight champ’s claim – made yesterday – that he would knock unbeaten star Anthony Joshua out inside three rounds.
Haye, aged 36 and having boxed just three rounds since the summer of 2012, says that everything he has seen of the reigning IBF heavyweight champ tells him he would not only have a short night against him but that he would even enjoy the fight, and have “fun.” Haye calls the 17-0(17) British star “robotic” and he insists there are just too many holes in his overall game for him to be able to cope with “The Hayemaker.”
Hughie Fury puts out Tweet saying Wilder wants to fight him, Feb. 25th – “I’m happy, make this fight”
A Deontay Wilder-Hughie Fury fight has been spoken of before now, at least as a possibility, and yesterday, in a Tweet by unbeaten Hughie, cousin of course of troubled former world heavyweight king Tyson, an actual date for this would-be fight appeared. 22-year-old Fury, 20-0(10) Tweeted the following:
“I’m ready for the big fights. Wilder wants it 25th Feb. I’m happy please make this fight @boxnationtv @MGM_Manchester @HennesseySports.”
