Lucas Matthysse goes into his WBC 140lb title fight with Viktor Postol this Saturday at a significant size disadvantage to the Ukrainian, whose listed height is 5′ 11″ – and “The Machine” knows he must use every scrap of grey matter in his boxing brain to negotiate the relative unknown, who holds a solid knockout win over Selcuk Aydin and is guided by legendary trainer, Freddie Roach.

HBO Boxing kicks off the fall with an all-action showdown featuring one of the most exciting fighters in the sport when HBO BOXING AFTER DARK: LUCAS MATTHYSSE VS. VIKTOR POSTOL AND HUMBERTO SOTO VS. ANTONIO OROZCO is seen SATURDAY, OCT. 3 at 10:15 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT) from StubHub Center in Carson, Cal., exclusively on HBO. The HBO Sports team will be ringside for all the action, which will be available in HDTV, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.
Lee Selby Keen to Impress on PBC Debut
IBF 126 lb champion Lee Selby (21-1, 8ko) is relishing the chance to impress on his debut under the Premier Boxing Champions banner, which takes place October 14th against Mexican veteran and former multi-weight champion, Fernando Montiel (54-4-2-KO39) in Glendale, Arizona.
The Welshman – newly signed to elusive ‘advisor,’ Al Haymon – was impressive winning his title in May, when he forced a stoppage over a cut Evgeny Gradovich after appearing to dominate the IBF fighter of the year for large periods of the contest, and will be looking to do much the same against the admittedly smaller, and older, 36 year old Montiel.
Pacquiao/Khan Moving Closer for Early 2016 says Amir
They say the best things come to those who wait, and in Amir Khan’s case that’s half true, as after missing out on a Floyd Mayweather fight after over 2 years of very public chasing, the British former 140 lb champion looks set to land his “plan-b” and secure a 2016 clash with Filipino superstar, Manny Pacquiao instead.
Khan turned his attentions to “Pac-Man,” ostensibly as a next best thing after failing to land the Floyd fight, and with Bob Arum last week confirming that talks were well underway and he wasn’t looking at any other opponent for his fighter, it seems a fight is on for the first part of next year, although exact details need ironing out.
Carl Froch: Playing Devil’s Advocate Over Klitschko Injury
Retired former super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has called into question the injury to Wladimir Klitschko that has caused the date for the Ukrainian’s title fight with British challenger Tyson Fury to be moved back.
Froch, writing in his Sky Sports column – and admittedly playing ‘devil’s advocate’ – is questioning the legitimacy of the calf-strain that Wladimir picked up just days after a fun-filled press conference in London that saw Fury arrive in a Batman costume, claiming the giant challenger may well have ‘rattled’ the champion.
Fedor Chudinov Looking at Sturm & Groves Fights Next
WBA (reg) super-middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov (14-0, 10ko) is looking at taking a small rest and then moving onto a December rematch with German former world titlist Felix Sturm, hopefully then coming back to England next year, possibly to fight George Groves.
Chudinov retained his belt in London in a methodical, yet destructive breakdown of a brave Frank Buglioni at the weekend (UD), and his promoter Vlad Hrunov has claimed their immediate plans do not include dangerous mandatory challenger Vincent Feigenbutz – just yet at least.
Fortuna defeats Velasquez
LAS VEGAS (September 29, 2015) – Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (29-0-1, 21 KOs) used a relentless attack to stop Carlos “Twin Dream” Velasquez (19-2, 12 KOs) in the tenth-round and retain his super featherweight world title on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes from The Pearl Theater at Palms Casino Resort.
Pacquiao vs. Khan in February of 2016: Building block to Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao II ?
Retirement is a funny thing, because when one is retired they never get a day off.
Whether it’s the money, thrill, pride, or the all mighty crowd effect, like most of the famous fighters, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will not be able to feed off of the limited attention from the world during his leave. He retired before, and he will retire again.
Andy Ruiz Jr: I’ll be Ready to Fight Wilder or Tyson Fury Soon
Mexican-American heavyweight contender Andy Ruiz Jr (25-0, 17ko) claims he has bounced back after a 9 month lay-off due to injury, and that his forgettable 8 round comeback win at the weekend over journeyman, Joell Godfrey, was merely a springboard on to bigger and better things now the cogs have been oiled again.
The unbeaten 26 year old is straight back out again on October 24th, when he takes on recent Anthony Joshua foe, Raphael Zumbano Love, and is also insistent that some of the weight and fitness issues that have dogged him will be a thing of the past if he keeps the momentum going.
Jones Jr: Twists & Turns in Cruiserweight Title Plot
Long faded 46 year old legend Roy Jones Jr, is continuing in his quest to win an elusive cruiserweight world title, going on record to say he will pursue Brits Ovil McKenzie OR Enzo Maccarinelli in pursuit of that aim.
Last week the news broke that Jones was seeking to fight Welsh former champion “Big Mac” in his new second home – Russia, although it was unclear how that fight would lead to a world title given Maccarinelli no longer holds one and hasn’t for many years – since being destroyed by David Haye in their massive 2008 unification. The Welshman fights a TBA next week in Newport over 10 rounds, and needs a win according to Warrior Promotions in order to secure any potential fight with Jones down the line.
