This Friday the 13th at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, ESPN presents the Quarterfinal rounds of its 2015 Super Welterweight Boxcino Tournament. In the main event Cleotis “Mookie” Pendarvis (17-4-2, 6 KO’s) of Los Angeles faces Ricardo Pinell (10-1-1, 6 KO’s) of San Francisco in a Northern vs. Southern California showdown. Brandon “The Cannon” Adams (15-1, 10 KO’s) also of Los Angeles goes toe to toe against New Jersey’s Alex “The Brick City Bullet” Perez (18-1, 10 KO’s).The Ukraine’s Stanyslav Skorokhod (8-0, 6 KO’s) takes on Cleveland, Ohio’s Michael Moore (13-0, 6 KO’s), and Vito “Casper” Gasparyan (14-3-5, 8 KO’s) squares off against Simeon “Candyman” Hardy (13-0, 10 KO’s).
Pendarvis was TKO’d due to a cut over the eye in his last bout back in 2013 against an undefeated fighter. This was one of the two times the southpaw has been stopped in the ring. Is opponent, Pinell, also a southpaw, has been stopped once himself against a 2-1 fighter. Pinell has fought more recently than Pendarvis – his last fight being in November 2014. Though he has 5 straight wins, only one of Pinell’s opponents had a winning record (2-0)
All but the last of Stanyslav Skorokhod’s fights took place in his native Ukraine. His last fight was a quick TKO after his opponent’s corner threw in the towel in the second round in Hollywood, California. His opponent Moore boasts an impressive undefeated record as well; however, his last four opponents have a combined record of 43-81-8.
Brandon Adams’ first and only loss (UD) came at the hands of Willie Monroe Jr. in the 2014 ESPN Boxcino Middleweight Tournament final. Now at super welterweight he faces Alex Perez, a fighter with also only one defeat, a TKO at the hands of Antonin Decarie in 2012. Perez has won two fights since the loss, fighting only once in 2013 and once in 2014. The southpaw Perez possesses a noticeable height advantage; however Adams is the younger man at 25 – Perez being 7 years older.
Gasparyan is an Armenian now living in Glendale, California. His last fight was a UD loss back in December 2012 to undefeated Jessie Vargas. All of Gasparyan’s losses were by decision, twice to undefeated fighters. The undefeated Hardy is originally from Guyana and now living in Brooklyn, New York. Hardy’s last three fights took place in the United States; all his previous fights were in Guyana. Only three of Hardy’s fights went the distance, and two of those were against the rugged Howard Eastman. Hardy’s last fight was in June of last year – much more recent than Gasparyan’s.
