WBC super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (43-4-1, 39 KOs) and Juan Francisco Estrada (36-2, 25 KOs) will meet up in SuperFly2 card on February 24 at the Forum in Inglewood, California. The fight will be shown on HBO Boxing.
Is the career, or the high level career, of one-time Pound-for-Pound king Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez over? This is what many people are firmly suggesting is the case, due to the quite nasty fourth-round KO the Nicaraguan star suffered at the hands of Thai beast Srisaket Sor Rungvisia on Saturday night in Carson.
And maybe the now 46-2 former champ will indeed take one big look inside and wonder if it’s worth keeping on carrying on. Certainly no-one would hold it against Gonzalez if he did call it a, great, career.
In a year that has been full of stunners, last night’s truly shocking result in Carson, California might just have topped the lot. Srisaket Sor Ringvisai, AKA Wisaskil Wangek, absolutely destroyed one-time Pound-for-Pound king Roman Gonzalez.
Last night’s fight was a rematch of a great action fight that saw the tough, strong and, as we saw last night, viciously powerful Thai southpaw score an upset decision win over a 46-0 “Chocolatito” – what happened last night blew that win off the charts.
WBC super flyweight world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (43-4-1, 39 KOs) dealt former multiple world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KOs) a terrible defeat in knocking him out in the 4th round on Saturday night in the main event of the “SuperFly” Card on HBO Championship Boxing at the StubHub Center in Carson. California.
Rungvisai was hitting Gonzalez at will with huge power shots in rounds 1-3. In the 4th, Rungvisai knocked Gonzalez down hard with a big shot to the head. Gonzalez got back up but was quickly knocked down a second time.
This Saturday night the rematch between Roman Gonzalez and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai at the super flyweight division along with the rest of the HBO tripleheader could be the spark that ignites round two if you will of the Flyweight Wars. Several years ago a plethora of fights took place at the flyweight division sparking a round-robin feel amongst 7 or 8 fighters. It was a wonderful thing to witness as many hardcore fans got a taste of what boxing use to be like in its heyday.

Fight fans, those who appreciate the considerable talents of the smaller men in particular, are bracing for a great action fight this Saturday night in Carson, California. Dubbed “Superfly,” Saturday’s card is of course headlined by Srisaket Sor Rungvisai-Roman Gonzalez II.
Back in March, the Thai fighter and the Nicaraguan put on a terrific fight, one that saw “Chocolatito,” who was closing in on greatness – greatness he may still achieve – lose for the first time as a pro. Falling to 46-1 and losing his WBC 115 pound belt, Gonzalez lost what many fans felt was a debatable decision. But now, although he still believes he won the fight in March, Gonzalez is determined to do everything he has to do so as to get revenge.
The hype is in full swing, the circus is in town and no matter where you go you cannot avoid it. It is the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor crossover fight and as much as some fans, many of them in fact, cannot wait for Saturday night in Las Vegas, many more fans, boxing fans, cannot wait for it all to be over; for boxing to ‘get back to normal.’
The Super Flyweight Division, long one of boxing’s most exciting, filled with many of the sports’ legendary superstars, will add another chapter into its annals of memorable evenings on Saturday, September 9.
WBC Super Flyweight World Champion SRISAKET SOR RUNGVISAI, (43-4-1, 39 KO’s), of Si Sa Ket, Thailand, defends his title against former champion “ROMAN “CHOCOLATITO” GONZALEZ (46-1-0, 38 KO’s), of Managua, Nicaragua, in a rematch of their epic battle this past March. The rematch headlines a tripleheader that will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.
