Photo: David Spagnolo/Main Events – Sergey Kovalev fights his mandatory (IBF) challenger, Frenchman Nadjib Mohammedi tonight on HBO/Boxnation in the UK and has warned there is still much more to come from him in the future, as he is learning every day.

The Russian knockout artist hit the big time with his WBO 175 lb title win over Welshamn Nathan Cleverly in 2013 and has since added the IBF and WBA titles by beating future Hall of Fame Inductee Bernard Hopkins by UD last November, with Hopkins being one of the few to actually hear the final bell against the “Krusher.”

Nadjib Mohammedi: 'The Fight Will End By KO, For Me Or For Him' - Kovalev v Mohammedi

Saturday night on HBO in the US and Boxnation in the UK, Sergey Kovalev will defend his IBF/WBO and WBA light heavyweight titles against French mandatory challenger (IBF) Nadjib Mohammedi, who will be entering the fight as a heavy underdog.

The Frenchman will bring a 37-3, 23ko record to the ring, though hasn’t mixed in anywhere near the level of class as his Russian opponent. British fans may remember him from a 2010 loss to Welshman Nathan Cleverly, himself destroyed by the Russian in 2013, yet Mohammedi is in confident mood regardless.

Kovalev Blasts Stevenson Ahead Of Mohammedi Clash - Live on BoxNation

Knockout king Sergey Kovalev has labelled Adonis Stevenson as “not a real champion” and dreams of capturing his WBC belt. The unified WBA, WBO and IBF light-heavyweight world champion has conquered all before him, including wins over the legendary Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal, but a showdown with 175-pound rival and current WBC champion Stevenson has eluded him.

A clash has been much talked about over the past year but 32-year-old Kovalev is now set to do battle this Saturday night, live and exclusive on BoxNation, against Frenchman Nadjib Mohammedi but his ambition is still to complete his title haul by adding the WBC belt.

Kathy Duva: 'We Want Stevenson Fight But The Boxing Landscape Has Changed'

This Saturday on HBO, WBA/WBO/IBF light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev fights mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi in a fight fans can only see going one, destructive way.

For many fans the simple fact remains that the fight they want to see at 175 – and are being denied – is the unification with lineal champion and WBC belt holder Adonis Stevenson, a fight that due to his affiliation with elusive ‘advisor’ Al Haymon, is further away than ever.

Sergey Kovalev: 'Adonis Got Lucky Against Dawson / He's Not The Real Champ'

This Saturday sees WBO, WBA and IBF light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev go into action against French mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, live on HBO (US) /Boxnation (UK)

Speaking to the media via FightHub tv, Kovalev insisted he is confident of victory against Mohammedi, yet could not avoid the topic of bitter rival and WBC boss, Adonis Stevenson, who holds the one title the Russian needs to become undisputed champion.

Clearly frustrated at Stevenson signing with Showtime, and his outright refusal to fight on HBO – where Kovalev fights exclusively – the Russian has conceded he may have to wait until another fighter beats Adonis first before he can get a shot at the WBC title.

Sergey Kovalev v Andre Ward Being Lined Up For 2016

After his recent 172 lb catchweight clash with over-matched Brit Paul Smith last month, the consensus opinion surrounding WBA (sup) super middleweight champion Andre Ward was that he had outgrown 168 lbs and would be looking to move up.

With challenges at super middle also seemingly thin on the ground for the new Roc Nation Sports signing, a fight with dominant Russian 175 lb champion Sergey Kovalev has inched a little closer to reality, according to Kovalev’s promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events, who was speaking at a conference call to promote Kovalev’s upcoming July 25th fight with Nadjib Mohammedi;

Nathan Cleverly: 'I Want To Rematch Kovalev'

It was a bleak night for British boxing and Nathan Cleverly back in August of 2013, when the then WBO light-heavyweight champion surrendered his title to big-hitting Russian Sergey Kovalev in front of his hometown fans in Cardiff – knocked out in four dominant rounds by the brutal puncher, who announced himself to the world and ripped the bottom out of the Welshman’s confidence and career in the process.

However, 2 years on and after a brief flirtation up at cruiserweight, the former champion is back at 175 lbs and is looking to right past wrongs, telling respected British publication ‘Boxing News’ – perhaps misguidedly – that a Kovalev rematch would be on his radar for the future.
