A Brook win over GGG would not just be a great win for the challenger, but also the finest moment for a legendary Sheffield gym

Herol Graham, Naseem Hamed, Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter, Ryan Rhodes. These are just some of the talented fighters to have risen from the famous Wincobank gym in Sheffield and either won or fought for a world title. But for all the achievements of the cherished Ingle gym, one fighter will give the boxing gym its finest success, one to top all previous glories, if he can shock the odds and pull off a victory later on this year.

Kell Brook, the current IBF welterweight champion who will move up two weight classes to challenge the formidable and feared Gennady Golovkin in less than a month, walked into the Ingle gym many years ago.

Golovkin and Brook 30-days weights

Gennady Golovkin, (35-0, 32 KO’s) and Kell Brook (36-0, 25KO’s) have both weighed in within the World Boxing Council’s (‘WBC’) required 30-day limits heading into their highly anticipated international showdown at The O2 on Saturday, September 10 in London, England.

Golovkin/Brook news: Middleweight ruler Gennady Golovkin and his next challenger Kell Brook both weighed in at today’s 30-day weight check conducted under WBC rules, and the weights were quite surprising. Brook, looking enormous in comparison to his welterweight says, tipped in at 176-pounds, while Golovkin, looking trim, came in at 165-pounds. So both unbeaten fighters are within the WBC rules that state a fighter should not be any more than 10 percent above the bout’s weight; which is of course 160-pounds.

Golovkin vs Brook: Brook extremely confident going into huge challenge of Golovkin

Golovkin vs Brook: Brook extremely confident going into huge challenge of Golovkin

“I’ve visualized the knockout already”

Kell Brook might be a significant underdog going into his September 10 challenge of middleweight ruler Gennady Golovkin, he might be having his very first fight not one but two weight classes above his career-long tenure at welterweight, and he might be going in with the single hardest puncher in boxing today. But Brook – who is either talking a great game that hides his real feelings or is utterly convinced for real that he will win – says he does not care about what Golovkin will be doing in the ring he will share with him in London next month.

Only Brook and Ward can match GGG says Etches

Only Brook and Ward can match GGG says Etches

Middleweight king Gennady Golovkin will be in London today to attend a press conference to further promote his September fight with Kell Brook and, as the hype grows over the fight that has seemingly polarized fight fans, everyone has their opinion on what will happen inside a packed O2 Arena on September 10. One man who is giving Brook – the reigning IBF welterweight champ who is currently adding muscle to his impressive frame so as to be able to go to war at 160-pounds – a good chance is British middleweight contender Adam Etches.

Etches, from Sheffield like Brook, told The Star how he feels there are only two fighters in the sport today who are capable of matching the feared Triple-G: Brook and pound-for-pound star Andre Ward. Etches feels Brook will need to fight GGG using similar tactics to those he adopted when he won the IBF 147-pound belt by closely out-pointing Shaw Porter two years ago.

Ricky Hatton “feels sorry” for Kell Brook, wishes him well against “punching machine” Golovkin

Ricky Hatton “feels sorry” for Kell Brook, wishes him well against “punching machine” Golovkin

British boxing hero Ricky Hatton, a fighting man who knows all about how special it feels to smash the odds, and, all about how it feels to be smashed when the odds against you are obeyed, is hoping his countryman Kell Brook can pull it off against Gennady Golovkin on September 10. But, in speaking with Ring Magazine, “Hitman” Hatton wasn’t about to betray his brutally honest nature and he had to admit how he feels Golovkin will prove too much for Brook.

Brook is of course moving up from 147 to challenge the feared middleweight destroyer, a destructive puncher nobody has thus far been able to go the full 12-rounds with, and it is this “punching machine” that Hatton feels will win in London in just over six week’s time. Hatton said Brook “cannot be blamed” for taking this, the ultimate of gambles, but the warrior who faced three pound-for-pound stars during his exciting career – Kostya Tszyu (a magnificent win), Floyd Mayweather (a spirited loss) and Manny Pacquiao (a brutal KO destruction) – can only hope that Brook will somehow prove him wrong and score a sensational upset win.

Kell Brook happy to be tested by Vada ahead of Golovkin fight

Kell Brook happy to be tested by Vada ahead of Golovkin fight

Kell Brook has already said he doesn’t want any excuses after he’s shocked the world against middleweight king Gennady Golovkin, as he insists he can do and will do. And “The Special One,” does not in any way want to risk anybody claiming after his upset victory that it came with the assistance of anything illegal. Brook, the IBF welterweight king who rose through the ranks the hard way, from British level to European and then to world level, has always been a clean athlete.

Making the welterweight limit was proving tough for Brook, which was one of the reasons he agreed to take the massive gamble of a fight with the feared puncher known as Triple-G, but Brook continued to put in the honest, hard work so as to make 147. Never has Brook’s name ever been anywhere close to linked to PEDs, not as much as a whisper – and Brook is making sure it stays that way. Happy to be going through a series of tests conducted by VADA, earlier this week Brook underwent his first test. Brook took to his Twitter page to indicate how pleased he is to be proving – not that he needed to – how he is one of the sport’s clean practitioners.
